Just got informed an 8 second car has flipped/rolled 8 or more times at the track.

I believe we will have the fantastic track prep to thank.

It seems unrealistic that it flipped so many times, the picture looks like it is not far from the start line.
Looks maybe at the 1/8 mile point or closer.

^ if it really was an infact an 8 second car; it doesn't need much pavement to get up to some pretty nutty speeds.

This... an 8 second car could potentially be heading 160+km/h at that point...

I hope the driver is alright! I would definatley like to hear the story...

I saw the whole thing...it was strange how it went down though. It almost seemed like both cars were trying to spin the entire way down the track and the guy in the tower lane lost control.

I lost count of the flips but it was easily 5 or 6. The driver seemed okay which is most important.

Straight out of a damn movie though, I was at the south end of the bleachers and had a perfect view.

To be honest I am not sure, sorry. It was a fully prepped drag car though...I couldn't believe how much speed it was carrying when it lost control.

Pro-stock car, started a huge burn out.... got squirrley, over corrected and over it went.

Rolled 4 times.

Don't know the name of the driver but he was back in the pits and he was fine.

Sometimes, when you don't have a clue what you are talking about, it's better to keep your mouth shut that to beak off & look like an idiot.

Rick Fransecone, the guy who posts on here as Secret Street is the owner & driver of the car that flipped. He was trying to help out the street car shoot-out people by laying dow a coat of rubber with a funny car style burnout. His car got sideways & from what I can tell, it looks like one of the slicks folded over onto it's self. They have no sidewall strength & don't handle sideways loads worth a damn.

Track prep had nothing to do with this accident, other cars there managed runs as fast as 8.67 & in my own car, I ran a best of 10.3, only 1/10 off my person best on a good weather day. For a cold track, it was plenty sticky.

The one thing this incedent proved was exactly why the tech equipment checks are so important. I know a lot of people thing that the tech inspections aree just a pain in the ass but this proves that the rollcage did it's job, all the rules about fuel lines being braided steel proved to be right as the lines were stretched & scrapped but didn't burst so there was no fire & very little fluid on the ground at all.
Rick got away with a bruised arm & a mangled car but he walked away. In the end of the end, that's all that matters.

^ I agree, I actually thought the track prep last night was pretty decent, better than most. Most of my runs were right after the Fastest street car shoot out runs which prob made it better for me. Most of the high HP cars were having trouble hooking due to the cold temps and it took 3 long burn outs before my slicks started hooking well.

I was in tech when the crash happened so I didn't see it. I saw the car after though, I think it was a Monza or sumthin. Yellow with side stripes I think, saw it from far after so who knows.

Greg I thought that was your Z28, but wasn't sure. You still running just a 150 shot?

The track hooked as well as I think you could expect for it being 8c or whatever it was last night. They also did a great job of keeping the cars moving as quickly as possible. The stuff that slowed things down had nothing to do with the track but some of the people racing there.

Some guy drove his sentra through the mud and then pulled up on the track and tried to do a burn out spraying mud everywhere. It was fun watching the guys sweep and mop the track after. haha.

all in all it was an awesome night and thanks guys for the great show.

pretty crazy. standing in mini donut line ... turn around, sparks, rolling, and crashing.

just glad the guy was okay and the track was back up and running pretty quick given the circumstances props to all the track personnel still managed to get 5 runs in

I hope this guy is okay.

Accidents like these do happen even in a somewhat controlled environment such as a track.

I just didn't find it amusing how these kids are laughing in the video. But what ever I guess.

Yeah that was me, I ended up finishing 3rd out of 39 cars but was hopelessly outclass going into the final round. I broke the tires loose coming off the line & just backed out of the throttle. No need to have another car on it's roof.

All in all it was a fun night, I went 5 rounds & had a pile of fun.

Yeah, still jetted for 150hp, I was going to step it up to 175 but the track was too cold to hold what I was putting down already so I didn't bother stepping on it more.

the reason i mentioned track prep is because of the countless nights i have shot at the track and watched cars, one after another slide around like they are on ice. You cannot deny the fact that track prep has not always been 100% performed. Glad the driver is okay, really shocking to see a car like that flip 4+ times hopefully its salvagable

So many question, too many wrong answers.

The car that flipped is mine. It is Beretta. To all that expressed concern on my condition, I thank you for that. I am OK with just a bruised left arm.
No I did not over correct the car after it headed for the wall. The reason it headed for the wall is the left rear tire went flat. The left rear slick inside sidewall failed and allowed the main hoop chassis member (this is the first bar that is installed when a tube chassis is built) to dig into the track surface and pole vault the car.

No the car was never for sale, and still isn't.

Most don't have a clue what good traction is and what makes it. Good traction is provided when you have a dry racing surface without moisture evaporating, sufficent track temperature, traction compound and rubber. Your tires grip the rubber not the traction coumpound or the surface. The prepped track is for drag tires (soft tires), not street tires or the knobby tires like we get on trucks. So I ask you, what kind of tires do we have on a Friday night? Is the track traction a function of the racing surface or the tire, or both.
How much rain have we had this year and how dry has the pavement been before we get the track for Friday nights, and do you think any moisture is evaporating as we add heat to the racing surface thru out the evening?

All these factors figure in to traction.

So to the guy that made the comment about the traction contributing to the accident, wrong again.

The preceding comments are mine and mine only and are not the opinions of the Motorsport Council of Calgary or the Friday Night Secret Street program.

Thanks for the update Rick, glad to hear you are getting better.

Look forward to seeing your car run the 1/4 again in the spring.
