View Full Version : good facial moisturizers for sensitive skin?

I'm sure there are quite a few people out there like me, who don't have 100% perfect skin. Can any of you guys recommend me a good facial moisturizer (I don't care if its a womans product or mens). I have very sensitive, naturally oily skin. It can get extra dry during our winters.

Brands I've used soo far;
Kiehl's - worked well, the scent was mediocre, but the convience of getting the product is troublesome, available only at holt renfrew

biotherm anti shine - great scent, but did not perform well as a moisturizer, available at shoppers

proactiv - gross smell, made my skin even oilier

There are a few others I've used but I can't remember them at the moment. Anyways out of all those brands Kiehl's was the most expensive, but also one of the best I used, I believe it was $65?

I don't want to spend more than $80 on a moisturizer.

Again since I do have very sensitive skin, I cannot use products that have perfume smelling agents in them as I'll just break out like no tomorrow ie) adidas moisturizer or something like that.

Thanks in advance!

Just clean your face regularly (With even just water very well) and never rub your face.
Pat away sweat and not wipe.

I hear sleeping with a damp warm towl over your face is good too open the pores. :dunno:

Personally I use Nivea for men Deep Cleaning Face Wash at least two times day. Scrub lightly but thoroughly and let it get the bad stuff out.

Try Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion

If Kiehl's is good, just stick with it. Although the price is a bit steep. If you keep switching products, it might make the situation worse. I used to use Clinique but stopped because I got lazy with my morning rituals.

Both can be bought at Holt and Shoppers

And don't wash your face too much in the winter drys it out even more.

I am going to derail your thread a little. It isn't just about moisturizer, but its also about cleaning and maintaining. You gotta find a routine that works for you. Always wash your face at night and in the morning and apply the moisturizer after.

Moving on....

Try Skeyndor. You can order their products thru spa boutique.com and I believe they have a mens line. Their aqua line is quite good.

I have been using products from Lush lately. I normally would never have bothered, but one of my staff suggested checking it out. I use this at night to clean my make up off (but it is still good for guys too)

and I am using this in the morning

Go in during the week so you get a full time person who actually knows what they are talking about and see what they suggest. They do give out samples so you dont have to buy a whole thing of lotion.

My other standby is Nivea products. Easy to find at the store, decent on the wallet and aren't greasy.

you can ask anything on beyond and get some decent answers and some really shit answers like the 2 after my original post.

I'm not breaking out or anything, my skin does get chapped though. I wash my face twice a day, once in the morning and once at night using Shisiedo's oil cleanser (can't remember specifics) then moisturize.

I find Nivea too oily for my skin type.

Let me begin by saying that I have a very sensitive skin as well and had a bad case of acne when I was in my teens. Now that I am older, I barely have any acne and have clear skin, for the most part. It took me a while to find the right combination of products but I found this to be the best one that works for me.

Use this Nutrogena deep clean cream cleanser to wash your face with hot water, which will open up your pores to have a good clean. Rinse it and finish off with cold water to close your pores back.

This should cost you roughly $7-$8 a bottle.

Then use clean and clear deep cleaning astrigent for sensitive skin. Use a facial cotton and you'll see how much shit is on your face. You'd be surprised, even after you've washed your face, there's still lot of dirt and other crap on your face.

This usually cost $7-$8 as well.

Finally, finish off with this Clean and Clear dual action moisturizer. It's good for acne as well as keeping your facial skin moist.

Again, this will cost another $7-$8.

Do this routine first thing in the morning, and right before you go to bed. You can even skip step 2 in the morning since you don't get that much shit when you sleep unless you keep your pillows dirty.

Altogether, this will cost you roughly $24 which is a lot cheaper than spending $65 on just a moisturizer. Hopefully that helps you out.

I guess keep hydrated throughout the day?

Side note: stay away from ProActiv

Like you, I did as well, now my skin is quite clear too and I'm just maintaining it to keep it like that now, but man those products you suggested, irritate my skin like no other and do more harm than good. My sister had those first 2 products you listed, I tried them for a couple days and instantly broke out.

almerick: yes, I tried a set (moisturizer, face wash and something else), horrible, over priced product.

edit: as much as i dont care to go to holt renfrew to pick up product, there are times where you run out and you've been too lazy during the week to go get more, so the convience of driving 2 min to shoppers or 10min to the bay is nice. lol

I don't have bad skin but it gets ridiculously dry after I use face wash. I use this Cetaphil stuff, it doesn't clog pores and has a but of sunscreen in it too. Not greasy at all. So far I've been happy with it, it was recommended to me by some girls lol.

Does anyone know of a face wash that doesn't dry the hell out of your face? I think I've tried just about everything, including Spectro Gel.

have you tried any of the Aveeno products? It is fragrance free and it's one of the only things I can use on my face.

So much stuff has fragrances in it.

+1 I have been using this or some variation for years.

I don't know what you diet is like, but i find this a factor too. If you are eating 5+ cups of vegetables/day your skin won't be as dry. Has to do mostly with Vit A and Vit E.

I drink more than enough water a day, I guess it's the veggies part I have to work on a bit more.

For the people who are suggesting product to me, I should of also stated in my original post to state what kind of skin you have so I can gauge a product that would be best suited for me.

I use some sort of Fructus face cleansing gel with micro beads in it. I've tried all sorts of stuff though like Spectro Gel, Nivea, Clearasil, etc. 5 min after I get out of the shower my face feels like it is going to crack it's so dry. Thats why I bought the Cetaphil stuff - just the moisturizer, not a cleanser. I also drink a TON of water throughout every day, several liters.

Look into Environ Avst...best ive ever used, Proactiv has got to be the worst product out there and will f*ck up your skin big time.

For you guys with really dry skin after showering, have you considered a water softener?

when you have sensitive, dry skin, water softner doesn't do much. My house has water softner.

I was put on this regimen by my dermatologist a few years ago, and it worked like magic. It's a bit more money, but was worth it IMO. Yes the product line looks to be on the feminine side, but whatever. This along with a microderm every few months works wonders on dry/oily skin.

I don't think I have particularly sensitive skin...and only use this product after a shave...otherwise my skin is au natural...

But I do have an oily T Zone and use this with NO issues at all...

I also wash my face twice a day with just basic dove soap and warm water...

If you have oily skin try Clinique Dramatically different mostuizing GEL.

I have COMBO skin and i use Dermalogica active moist in the summer, and skin perfection in the winter (my face is dry in the winter). It wont make you break out.
