It's miss listed as a VRII for some reason, but he explains it in the notes...I never use the VR on my 300 anyway...lol

It almost intrigues me. Just i'm so 50/50 right now on going the 300 2.8 or the new the 200 2 route. That would look hot on a D3s though at spruce lol.

have you seen the MTF on the 200? no brainer...the current one is nearly as sharp with the 1.4 TC as the 300 2.8 naked(which says a whole lot) and the new 200's MTF is even better. Go with the 200.

That's what I've been leaning at. I started realizing just how many portraits I've been doing at 200mm and I think it would just be sweet with how good this lens is. I'm trying to rent the older version just so I can test it with various TC's attached to see how fast the autofocus will be. Seeing as the 1.4 turns it into a 280 2.8 i would hope the focus would still be really smooth with some nice bokeh :)

yeah...Adam Ng is shooting with a 200 these days...I did some prints of one shoot of his a while back...pretty sharp is an understatement.

I could probably see myself using for many many portraits on a wedding day, at least formal stuff. I started looking at the bokeh at F2 and to me it's some of the nicest I've seen. Seems a lot more natural than the 85 1.4 and the 105 DC I played with. It could end up being my only big purchase for next year :)

The TC 2.0 III and the old 200/2 had almost no noticeable image degradation, I can't imagine how good it will be on the new 200/2. If I somehow got $5000 to spend on a lens it would be the new 200/2.

I'm basically budgetting the 200 F2 VR II as my only major equipment investment next year. I know I had the chance to use the 200 F2 VRI at a wedding and the bokeh was absolutely stunning on that lens. Finding a prime that can focus as fast as that lens does would be a huge asset.

It's not so much the image quality I'm worried about with the TC's attached its more the focus speed and how much it'll drop, etc. I think the lens could be just what I need at the same time for equestrian stuff :)

Yep, pretty sharp truly IS an understatement. I've never tried it with TC's yet though so I can't vouch for that. I wonder how noticable the quality is between the new and old 200.

I'm kinda hoping the older 200 will drop in price some and find a bargain on one. I've tried one out and probably the best lens I've ever used by itself. I just think this new $6000 price tag on the VRII might be a little crazy if we start seeing the older VRI for $3,000.

If the price of the new one stays relatively high in comparison to the VR1 version, I think it's unlikely that the price will drop too much on the VR1 because everyone will want to try get one for "cheap". It'll be cheaper for sure but 50% less would surprise me.

New they are $4300 so thats not too bad. About 20% off. If the VR II is going to be $6000 I don't think the price of the VRI will change all that much on the used market.

I'm looking in the $3300-$3500 price range. I'd figure to me that's a good deal. I think Vistek price was $4400 for me.

It's $4,298 every day at TCS. $4,400 tax in, however, would be a pretty good deal.

With these crazy expensive lenses though, people tend to keep them in pretty good shape...I normally only buy new because I'm so anal about my stuff but for something like this I probably wouldn't mind used.
