View Full Version : Rogers commercial vent

I normally don't let commercials bother me too much, I think most of them are annoying in one way or another and I usually just turn the channel or ignore them. But this newest Rogers one is driving me mental.

For those who aren't sure which one I'm talking about, it's the one where the annoying blonde is standing in line somewhere with a guy and she demands he hands over his phone so she could update her facebook. When asked why she doesnt use her own, she goes of on a "dont you have unlimited blah blah blah (sales pitch)?" then his phone rings and it turns out it's a call on his phone for her. When he hands over the phone she says some condiscending crap about him being a prince, then says to the person on the other end "Oh that's nobody. Seriously, he's not important". Seriously? You're using this guy's phone and he's in pretty much every annoying commercial with you as one of your friends, yet he's 'not important'?

WTF? These are the sales tactics Rogers has resorted to for selling their services? Teaching teenagers and showing them that it's cool to be even more spoiled, entitled and bratty? They just made it REALLY easy for me to forever know who I won't be giving my business to in the future.

Any other commercials out there bug you to the point of actually boycotting the company? It'd be interesting to see how many companies who pay lots of $$ for advertising are actually shooting themselves in the foot with how terrible their tactics are.

Telus.

They've shown me that Hippos and other animals are cute and cuddly, while obviously in real life they would probably attack me in a pack.

But seriously, any Christian organization commercial or donation to the poor. Far too in your face about it, so as long as those commercials run, the hungry children in Africa will not be seeing my money.

The commercials are pathetic, the worst are the two losers. Where the one guy is with rogers and the other is not. The latest one is the rogers guy is getting a phone swapped and the other guy is sitting on a bench and then stands up with change dropping from his pockets.

McDonalds commercials.... they seem to cater to black people (It's pretty funny) - I like when they had the 365black.com contest

I approach one of the Rogers store about replacement phone since I'm waiting for someone anyway. They did a GTFO look and tell me to call customer service.

Worst commercial is the asian couple in the fido commercial, where the husband is like tied up in his house, (symbolizing, being locked in contracts) and he's like crying that they hooked up all this different crap. and he ended up with the 2000 minutes phone for 40 a month.

I don't know Melinda. I think that personally I'd backhand the blonde, tell her to shut the hell up and get her ass back in the kitchen and lose those shoes and socks!

Edit:
Oh, and make me a sandwich!

You can never forget about the sandwich!

I am not sure if you guys will remember the "Set-For-Life Scratch and Win" commercials back in the day. Every 2 seconds the guy yells out "FAAAANTACTIC!" in a very annoying voice. That commercial makes me want to punch babies.

Oh, and don't get me started on on yeast infection/period commercials over the past decade. Really? Like, common! Here I am eating dinner, watching TV. Then this moderately attractive woman comes on the screen and I am thinking "Nice! I'd hit that. Looks like a banker too! I wonder what they are trying to sell me?". All of a sudden, this woman opens her mouth and starts spurting off how happy she is that she has a yeast infection. This is where I look at my food and start gagging. "Life is so wonderful when I have an infection" "Have a happy Period". Don't stand there and lie to me bitch! I have heard neither are pleasant to deal with. Don't sugar-coat the truth! And don't talk about your sandy snapper covered in blood while i am eating my damned meatloaf! JESUS!

Not to mention the fact that the whole cute cuddly animal commercial campaign is far too dated. It goes back to the Clearnet days, and that was what, almost 10 years ago?

Going by the fact my daughter goes around singing the telus tunes (even more than hannah montana) - My guess is they're aimed at a different demographic :)

This commercial drives me mental - OMFG what are we teaching people... That line "He's not important" really drives me nuts.

I'd like to punch her right in her bulging eye, and then kick her sackless friend in the groinal area. Not your daughter, the rogers bitch.

This commercial is just another example of the castration of male figures in the North American media.

It seems to be a prerequisite for any product or program that hopes to capture any female audience - the male subject is a lazy buffoon that would be completely hopeless without the aid of his female companion, who is always more intelligent/witty/attractive/attentive/organized/authoritative, etc.

Nothing new here.

Even with that, the "he's nobody" comment really pushes it

As long as us men remain willing and able to deliver a punishing meat-stick to the soon-to-be victimized holes of our oppressors, they will forever remain the dickless, and scrotumless finger puppet types they are.

We are the ejaculators here, not them. The sooner they realize that, the less painful their fall from momentary high ground will be.

Ok, lol.

The dude in the commercial is a chick, and it's a prime example of why you don't accept the "friends zone".

Melinda I completely agree with you on that one. That's exactly what I thought. The other one that pisses me off is that Tide commercial where the Mom uses her daughters shirt to go slut it up at some bar then blatantly lies to her daughter about it.

I agree 100% with OP. That girl needs to be in a greasy Euro gangbang porno vid.

BUT

This is business.

Considering the attitudes of people in Alberta, especially those who don't decide what or what not to buy based solely on beyond's opinion, it is a great tactic for Western Canada.

Yep that one bugs me too. Seems society is turning into a bunch of entitled spoiled bitches, and the advertising agencies seem to be propelling that to new levels of disgustingness.

It's funny but my gf seemed to have this weird idea that women have this bizarre power over men... I don't know if it's because she didn't have any brothers or watched too many miller boyett production sit coms or what , but my parents treated each other as equals and with respect.... Needless to say I don't let women treat me condescendingly long ;) and no I did not choke a bitch haha .

It's tru though , watch any sitcom , the men get shit on constantly... I don't get it.

In the end though, everyone knows what's really up. We're just sick and tired of putting up with the non-stop feminist bitching, and this is the only way we could get them to S.T.F.U. ;)

You guys need to watch mad men.

*kid knocks over drink*
*dad smacks kid, then makes him apologize for knocking it over*
*Dad then says "Go get your mother to clean that up.*

Cue applause.

what's even dumber about that commercial, it takes at least 45 minutes to was the shirt, plus it will smell freshly washed, be warm, etc... did this girl really look for something so bright for at least 45 minutes and not notice her mom doing laundry and poof magically find her shirt in her closet... dumb........................

Many commercials present a strong matriarch who needs a product to make their life easier because of their incompetent/immature husband and child(ren). Women see it as an empowering look into the social relationship as who really keeps things moving smoothly, men don't give a shit because they're never going to use the product, they're screwing around with their kids while their obedient wife cleans up after.

Men 1
Women 0

Read and EXTREMELY relevant article about this just the other day.

http://www.mcgill.ca/reporter/34/05/misandry/

TLDR: Men are demonized and marginalized because our culture allows and expects it, but the backlash is that media is presenting no role models for young men to follow which aren't negative.

Shocking. Yet another notch carved on the bedpost of the 'pussification of North America'. I seriously fear for the future of our world with kids being raised like this.

Acccckkk! Just as I hit reply, THAT commercial came on, LOL! I agree with you on how annoying it is...I think I've seen it to the point where if I were beside her I'd shake her, lol.

Those other Rogers commercials with the cute blonde guy & the dorky dark haired guy (his stalker I swear) are also really bad. I know they're just ads, but seriously Rogers; it's been over a year and dorky dude just isn't getting the message to get a phone from Rogers.

Oh, and neither am I...I was with Rogers...keyword there is 'WAS'.

Can't you 'kill' him off or something & get someone just a wee bit smarter??

I really dislike the commercial too however because you're fuming about this commercial the team has done their job right. Don't think it is so much about them trying to advertise this unlimited whatever, more or less it's to get into your head period.
