Go4Long suggested the idea for this thread, and I took it upon myself to move it along.

Obviously, it's to show off your lids ;) , but it can also be a good source of info for others.

Here are the ones I'm using presently:

Suomy Spec1R Extreme - Flowers (Anthracite)
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e38/mr_tarkanian/lids/spec1rlg.jpg
What I use it for: Everyday riding/back-up track helmet
Pros: Lightweight, good ventilation, visor doesn't fog, fits like a glove after some break-in, awesome internal padding.
Cons: Noisy, visor system makes swapping a pain

Shoei RF 1000 - Caster (Black) & Szoke
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e38/mr_tarkanian/lids/caster_tc51.jpg
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e38/mr_tarkanian/lids/JORDANBKD-NEWsides.jpg
What I use them for: Caster is a back-up lid, and the Szoke was my track helmet until I crashed it.
Pros: Quiet, well balanced, easy to use visor system. Of course, I have also crash tested one, and walked away with nothing more than a headache.
Cons: Visor fogs up pretty easy when at a stand still. Easy fix by cracking it a notch, but still a con. Noticeably more lift at high speeds compared to the "race" fit Suomy.

Scorpion EXO-700 - Burst (Red)
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e38/mr_tarkanian/lids/burst-red-white-large.jpg
What I use it for: Track
Pros: Cost effective w/ good features for its price point. Easy to use visor system, decently balanced.
Cons: Internal padding not as comfy as some higher end brands, but acceptable. Air flow is decent, but poorly directed. I get wind in my eyes, and a lot from under the chin, which I suspect is causing some lift.

well I guess I should contribute :P

First helmet(met an untimely demise with a mini van) RF1000 Caster. I loved this helmet because it was so quiet compared to anything I've tried since, and I crashed the feck out of it and quite literally walked away(just some minor memory loss...lol)...also for cold weather riding I found its breath shield to be much better than the RX7:

http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/productimages/OG/2008_Shoei_RF-1000_Caster_Helmet.jpg

Replaced that with an Arai RX7 Matsudo Cobra which will now be relegated to a track lid. I like this helmet because the lining seemed a little more cozy than the RF1000, I don't mind the visor changing system at all, but some people think it's a pain in the ass. The ventilation is fuckin amazing, but with that comes the trade off...it's louder than the RF1000 by a significant amount. And the visor fogs like a bastard unless you have the vents open on a cold day, so you either can't see, or have a cold face:

http://www.speed-wear.net/images/05_RX7_MATSUDO_P.jpg

And just ordered on Friday an AGV GP-Tech Combat...I'll add my thoughts on it after I get it:

http://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/product_images/agv_gp-tech_combat_black_black.jpg

Super excited to try out the AGV :bigpimp:

Shoei X-Eleven Elias in yellow and a HJC AC-12 for cold weather. I have a breath mask in the HJC and it is a PITA to remove and re-install. Had a RF-1000 until an unfortunate get off. Love the X-Eleven, excellent venting and very comfy but prone to fogging in cool weather and the breath guard rides on my nose a bit.

it left the chicago sorting facility early this morning...so I figure maybe by friday I'll have it, just in time for our nice warm weather this weekend :D

I was looking at the special edition AGV's too, but without having worn one for a couple days first I didn't want to spend the couple hundred extra dollars...I might get one for a street lid if I really like it...then push the Combat back to track duty.

Almost bought a GP-Tech when I was at Laguna Seca this year, but got the Szoke there for $160 instead. Next year I'll plan better so that I can take back more stuff with me.

Suomy Vanal - Cult. My everyday only helmet.

Only I have the (dark) gold tint visor, which is useless unless its impossibly bright out. :thumbsdow

GoNSho, I never found those visor sides. Blackfoot should have them though. I bought a bunch of pieces for my Vandal through them.

My GP-Tech is like a fricken Cadillac.

I haven't worn it for a while but wore it work today. Holy shit it's the balls.

Which AGV did you get GOfor?

Go4Long
09-24-2010, 01:08 PM
I got the GP-Tech that I posted a picture of up there somewhere...lol.

I find it a little more breezy inside than my arai, even with the vents closed, but that's not necessarily a bad thing unless it's freezing out. I did have to take the plugs out of my lobes(since taking it off would pull them out anyway), and I found that the way it pushes on my ears means my ear phones don't seem to want to stay in when I put it on, which I think made it seem a little louder than it actually is.

Fits fuckin amazing though, and really, all the above gripes are minor at best, I rode around town for about 45 minutes and did some running around, took it on and off a few times, etc. The chin strap release isn't as effective as the one on the RX7, but that could also just be that the strap is newer and still grippy. All in all I love it.

Wait til the packing breaks in. It'll be fine for your phones. Mine was a pain at first too.

oh...the other thing I meant to mention is the tear off posts...they're right in my peripheral vision, which took a couple minutes to get used to...

yeah, I'm sure the packing in will change it a bit...

My RF1100 is louder but fits better (on my head anyways). The new latch system is AWESOME. The wind noise is supposed to be fixed by an adjustable visor that they can adjust the bolts but Walt cant seem to find it every time I am in.

Try it on before you swap but I am happy with mine.

The RF1000 is a round head helmet while the RF1100 is for oval shaped heads, doesn't fit me as comfortably as the 1000. The other thing is that it is louder, even though its supposed to be quieter with the new spring latch system that shuts the visor. The only positive for me about it is the bigger visor, the helmet is barely visible if your looking straight forward because the visor is quite a bit bigger than the 1000.

The alien helmet at the botton of my pics was done by Cross-eyed here in Calgary for about a $900.00. Both my AGV's and the Scarface ones are a bit more due to the amount of details, type of materials, and just over all time that went into them so there between $1000 - $1850 painted by a local guy named Jason.

I have the samew helmet only mine has a little bit of graphic but mostly flat black, I don't mind the weight but it is noisy and I find the ventilation isn't good at all/

I also have a KBC VR1, i really like it still, very comfy

Heres mine. I have the (Suomy) dark reflective gold visor. I hate it it though, its super dark to use unless its very bright out. I just leave it up and wear sunglasses when I need the eye protection for long rides out to Lake Louise or whatever.
I wish it was the same as the Extreme series, still reflective & slightly tinted but entirely usable day or night.

The helmet is a bit loud, so earplugs are a good idea for long highway rides, but in the city its fine. Very comfy helmet. Well worth the $500 I paid shipped to my door from that Ebay Suomy vendor: Speed addict cycles.
The cooling is decent too.

I work in parts (not in motorsports), and if a part/piece can't be found in stock from the respective distributor, there's usually ways around that... Its just a pain in the ass, so you just gotta find the right parts guy haha.

... for those with a suomy helmet, how do you like it in comparison to your shoei (if you have both).

EDIT: ... and theres your PN: KASEGA (direct from suomy)... Shouldn't have any problems finding that, unless the distro's out of stock.

revzilla.com for 47 dollars american plus shipping.

You can go to GW cycle, retail is 59, and you can get them down to 50.

So it's the same difference, and they are a local company.

Talk to michelle. She hooked me up with an unbelievabel price for my rf-1100 that blew away the internet price.

Second for GW.
However, i try and rep Bow Cycle as much as possible.

You can get visors anywhere really. And on that note, most manufacturers don't deal with customers much at all. So no surprise that shoei doesn't sell visors online

Bell Cerwinske, got it from sportbiketrackgear along with a transitions shield (only reason why I got a bell helmet).

Wind noise is expected to be louder but I listen to music through the G4 anyways. The quick release mechanism is very nice and helmet is super comfy.
