I am looking to buy a U-Pass off of a beyond member however it is from MRU and I have a U of C ID card. Is there any way for the transit driver to tell that it is the wrong U-Pass? That is, are they different colors for the different institutions? A friend of mine told me they are, the seller tells me they aren't, but without seeing the U of C one first I have absolutely no way to verify this for myself. Can anybody help me out here?

yeah they are different. The ones from MRU have a watermark on the sticker that says "MRU" on them.

Just looked at mine too (SAIT) it is about 1 cm high by 2 cm long and is goldy/holographic in color but does say SAIT##### with the expiry date on the bottom.

Im guessing it will matter, if you have a UofC card, and then you have a MRU sticker, which are totally different, meaning you didn't really "qualify" to receive a UofC pass and trying to work around the system.

That being said, I have not seen a bus driver actually look specifically at my card, so I think you would be fine, as long as the UPasses are correct.

Yeah, if you had an MRU sticker on an UofC ID and the transit police saw it on the train...you MIGHT get bagged for it.

Thanks for all the info guys. The seller came through with a U of C one, and I was able to confirm it because it had a UC#### identifier on it. I suspected the other institutions would have different identifiers, and as mentioned above, if you have a U of C ID with a MRU or SAIT U-Pass on it, likely you'd get ticketed since it is not allowed to remove them from the cards they were issued for.

I think they added the name this year to prevent people from selling the pass.. which is kinda stupid since we can't opt out of it.

I've never used my upass ever before yet I pay $90/semester for it :banghead:

So out of curiosity, has anyone at this point had a transit cop actually inspect the sticker now that there's the institutional identifier on it now? Or do they just see the sticker and move on? I took a chance and bought an MRU sticker for my UofC ID. If they aren't checking, then it makes it easier to just get whatever pass is available rather than to match up the stickers for the card.
