are we talking Cocaine here??

sputnik

No.

Coca-Cola (or Pepsi) that is made in Mexico with real sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup (aka glucose-fructose) like it is made in the US and Canada.

There really isn't any fuss is there? When I was in Washington for a week in July, that is all we drank. It is better than USDM or CDM coke, but it isn't THAT much better. haha

I loved it when I tried it several years ago. Id love to find it locally as well...

The difference between drinking it out of glass vs can/plastic is probably bigger than the difference between real sugar and hfcs. The sugar taste is pretty subtle.

You think? I hate juice boxes because they taste like cardboard haha... I could see that being true.

^I'm not saying glass makes much (or maybe any) difference, just that the sugar is really minor. That said, ever try drinking water out of a can? Tastes weird!

I should trade flats of mexican coke for flats of beaver buzz. I miss that stuff! :( It has real sugar too, btw.

You can get UK Coke at the British store in Market Mall. It has normal sugar in it.

FWIW, I definitely noticed how much better cane sugar tasted when I was in Costa Rica.

I couldn't tell much of a difference, if any, when I tried it myself.

To me there is a huge difference in taste between cane sugar and corn syrup in colas.

Glass vs plastic to a lesser extent but still noticeable.

There is deffinitely a huge difference. Seriously why does NA get the shaft with the pop drinks? is real sugar that much more expensive?

From wikipedia:

Factors for this include governmental production quotas of domestic sugar, subsidies of U.S. corn, and an import tariff on foreign sugar; all of which combine to raise the price of sucrose to levels above those of the rest of the world, making HFCS cost-effective for many sweetener applications.

I used to work for a coca cola bottling co back home & cos of the large amounts that i used to drink, my taste buds became very sensitive to subtle differences in the product.

With that said, I drink the local Coca Cola but its definitely not as good as what i had back home....which was made with sugar....In my opinion, either one is still better than Pepsi :dunno: :bigpimp:

I am a complete Coca-cola fan, and avoid Pepsi as much as I can. I remember growing up I used to be huge Pepsi fan. Wondered where I made the switch...then I found this:

http://2media.nowpublic.net/images//93/64/93647a246c60b7d30c143c49a157e853.jpg

It was all about the real sugar vs the fructose crap they use now.

I used to have Cola Champagne most days for lunch or snack time since, it was my favorite and my dads as well when I was a kid back home, here is not too bad except if you are buying the small one and drink it in the bottle, cause once you take it out, it seems most of the soda just evaporates really fast, but still damn tasty.

I've seen it all over the place in the US. I was just wondering if you could get it anywhere in Canada since I've never seen it here.

Throwback was everywhere, just didn't last too long. They do it every few months for a limited time. They had throwback mountain dew and dr pepper also. I think it just ended again though, haven't seen any for a couple weeks. It seems like they're testing markets or something. A few batches had recipe changes.

https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Throwback_%28drink%29

Edit: Apparently Canada gets a sugar version of coke during passover. Also, most actually prefer the taste of HFCS in a blind test.

See, I live in Manhattan, where everything has its own rules. Even the McDonalds has its dollar items starting at $1.69 (vs. $1 for the rest of the country). I should try again in Jersey, and stockpile it.

i always thought the slight difference in the taste of coke or other drinks when travelling abroad came from the water they used... i kinda like euro-coke better, but the difference is so small that i dont know why people would go out of their way to find it :dunno:

Chemically it is way different. HFCS is higher in fructose. Fructose is a much sweeter sugar.

Also, but has nothing to do taste wise. But fructose is a big cause for obesity because it has to get processed by the liver. The liver can't break down fat and sugar at the same time. Also fructose doesn't release insulin, when insulin is released it can help with satiety.

Therefore, HFCS coke you will drink more(and eat more) and get fatter.

Tacos are good but they are too expensive. Should be $2 or less. Same with the Empanada place next door, too expensive.

Right, that's why although I slightly prefer the taste of HFCS, I opt for real sugar if available. The jury is still out on how much better it really is, but the whole reason that HFCS exists to begin with is BS, which is enough to avoid it on principle alone :D

I actually noticed a huge difference when I drank it with rum. I don't like rum, but that drink was particularly delicious, and I'm pretty sure it was the coke that made it better. And it was my first drink of the night, so I wasn't drunk, haha. I also found that Mexican Coke didn't leave a gross film on my teeth like our Coke.

Ironically, Mexico coke destined for Mexico is made with corn syrup these days. Mexico coke destined for export is made with cane sugar, so you can only get real Mexican coke outside Mexico. :nut:

This is the genuine stuff. GF brought this home, thought it was just some Christmas packaging. Cracked one open today, took a sip and immediately recognized the taste. Checked the ingredients, cane sugar.

Mexico coke in Mexico is the same as US coke now, sweetened with HFCS. It's been for the last 5 or so years. Only Mexican coke destined for export is still made with cane sugar.

You mean like a Pepsi challenges where you're comparing HFCS Coke vs. Cane Sugar Coke?
I think you should be able to tell the difference then lol... If not, then that's also good. No need to spend extra $ on the good stuff haha.

I won't be surprised if there is subtle difference if I try them side by side. Perhaps I don't drink enough coke to be a coke connoisseur. I was a bit disappointed initially. It tastes like coke but for more money lol.

If anything its the glass bottle thats making you think it tastes better, even reg coke tastes way better out of a bottle. I love coke and when i seen this at costco i had to try it and to me there was no substantial difference over reg coke.
