I have to admit, I don't know the differences between genres or that many artists but wanna check out more of it.

I really like Lupe Fiasco, Common, Kid-Cudi, Jay-Z and some Kanye. I'm gonna go through the Hip-Hop thread but are there some artists that you guys could suggest that are similar to these guys? I like pretty chill, laid back stuff. Not like Lil Jon or 3-6 Mafia type stuff.

Cheers.

Mos Def - Any and all of his albums

Talib Kweli - I've never been a huge fan especially since he sounds like he can barely keep up with Mos Def sometimes, but he's got some good stuff from time to time. A lot of people here seem to like him.

Common - Any and all of his albums

The Roots - I like "Things Fall Apart", "Game Theory" and their live album "Root Come Alive". They also perform all the music on the Jay-Z unplugged album.

Not all songs from on artist are similar, so please try not to say "not lil jon or 3-6mafia type stuff" Never count out a song based on the artist. You may find that the first few things you have heard from a particular artist doesn't feel right to you. That is why most rappers have different styles and flow, they need to stay fresh to stay on top. If one album is all the same type of rap, then it usually blows.

"I dont like The Game, he is all gangsta rap" ( i hear this a lot)

The game is a great example of the variation of styles that an artist can have. In Hip Hop you need to weed out the good from the bad and unfortunately, you cant just weed out the artist when it comes to rap.

now my point is this: If you're going to embrace hip hop on one level, you're eventually going to have to learn to like the side that does not appeal to you. There have been a lot of great albums posted up already so i won't add anymore, but +1 for illmatic.

Like a few people said already you should check out Wiz Khalifa, the kid's on fire now.

Some others to check out are:

Tyga (Well Done and Fan of a Fan mixtapes are so good)
Kid Ink (on the rise and similar to Wiz and Tyga)
J Cole

Those are the only artists I've listened to in over a month, really vibing them.
