I'm just wondering...
The EF sedan seems slightly different from what i've been exposed to back home (South Africa)
-What was the reason for some of the cars here being released with a red trunk centre trim (with civic written across) & some with a Black centre trim?

-Also, back home the top of the range was a160 DOHC motor & was differentiated by having a hump on the Left Hand side of the bonnet.
Did any of the models here also come with a humped bonnet?

The South African Civic is actually the Ballade, which is higher trim and slightly bigger. The range topper here is the EX (if you can find it), which has the D16A6 SOHC 1.6 non-VTEC. Most of them though are the DX and LX trims, meaning that they have the 1.5 SOHC D15B2 with DPFI. The trim on the back as far as I know, differentiates DX from LX (I could be wrong). Try going with a 89-91, the 88's have different suspension that is a bit harder to find.

BTW, where abouts in ZA? I'm from Durban.

The EX came in the US only, not Canada. Our highest sedan model during 88-91 was an LX that has some power options, but only a d series 1.5l

The model you ask about with a hump in the hood would have come with a dohc zc engine, no north american civic ever came with that option. (130hp btw, not 160)

Explains why the EX is so rare in Canada! :nut:

You're right Ash...I refer to it as civic cos i figured mentioning Ballade woulda thrown a real curveball into the mix.

Deetz...We never received the ZC series motors in SA. The model i'm talking about (better known as 160DOHC on the streets) came with a 118Hp D16A1 which was a 1.6L(160i).

The issue still at hand...why the difference in trunk trim.
In SA, its was a full red panel.
I notice here, they trunk trim has orange (from the indicators) running onto it as well.

Ash, you have PM

Rear Panel. Tails were tinted on this car so its hard to get the true beauty of it.http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb293/sietjiewp/doch3.jpg

Bump on bonnet not totally noticeable in this shot, but its there on the right

Hmm, as far as i knew, i thought only ZC (130hp non vtec dohc) came with cars with that hood.

I imported an 89 crx Si from Japan back in 2002 that came with the ZC.. Here are some pic's i took myself

Also, the picture you posted of the rear of that civic sedan with the tinted tail lights _(look pretty good btw), something is up with that. I just wonder if they were painted? The "Civic" decal is missing, and i can tell you Honda did put one there from factory...for sure!

The other thing that is funny is the D16A1 dohc engine. I doesn't fit in EF model honda's...the mounts are different. We have the 1.6l D16A1 in our 86-89 Integra's which shared the same mounts as 84-87 civic's and crx's, in fact, they bolt right into that older style car

Yep.You're 100% correct.
The ones in SA had BALLADE printed on them tho.

I don't really have an answer for the engine mount issue but i know for a fact that these cars were only released with D series 1.5 & 1.6 non vtec motors. The 1.6 was no doubt a DOHC motor & was a flagship model.
Close mate of mine owned one when i was still in college & we fiddled in that engine bay many evenings.
