i'm trying to grab a computer just so i can play starcraft 2 with decent performance as i'm not too concerned about playing it on the highest settings. i haven't bought a computer in ages, so i'm not sure what is the standard. my friend says i should go for ddr3 ram and a quad core processor, but i'm not sure about the graphics card etcc. so if you have any info on what i should be looking for when i buy a computer, please let me know!

all depends on your budget...

You can play it on Ultra settings with a new video card and low-spec (we're talking Pentium) everything else.

ya new video card and a new dual core with 2+gb of ram will run it.

Quad core isnt necessary, but recommended as they are dirt cheap for an AMD quad.

an intel 775 C2D or Q with 4 GB, GTX460 and 500 GB or 1 TB should run you around 700$.

Surf Kijiji.
I bought the following for $450

AMD Athlon II X64 Quad Core @ 3.0GHZ
4GB Ram
Radeon HD4870 1GB DDR5 Graphics Memory
500GB HD
Brand new Cooler Master Case
Motherboard that does SLI and capable of 16gb ram.

You can find lots of cheap shit on there. This setup was all brand new never used, still has stickers on the case.

I thought you were looking for a second-hand rig? Also, you should get the 1GB version of the GTX 460. There's a sizable difference in performance.

for sc2 you need a much better proc than that. spend more money and get a core i5 760 or a phenom x4 BE

$20 more - phenom X4 965 BE
about $100 more - core i5 760

i don't get it tbh.. Im running a C2D E8400 at 3.6 and never had problem playing SC2.. granted I've logged only 2-3hours of game time on SC2.

Same with BF BC2.. people are saying how much it loves quad.. but have no issue with it either.

+1 on 1GB GTX460 instead of 768, much much more performance for ~40$ difference.

do you guys think there will be a price drop on the GTX series once the 67xx series comes out?
