Hey, i'm looking at a new gaming lap. (CURSE YOU CIV 5!)

Does anybody know if it's a "good" time to buy. I mean, if i get an alienware m17x, is it approaching the end of it's model year or something like that. Is it best to wait a few months and get the "new model"?

It's been about 6 years since i paid attention to PC games, PC hardware, or anything like that. So i'm WAY out of the loop and really don't want to spend 3 days on tom's hardwared trying to catch up.

do you need a laptop for sures?

i've had my qosmio x305 ages ( in computer years, so 4 is alot lol) and i've played and can still play tons of games with the 512mb 9700m GTS, no major problems whatsoever in the 4 years at all, only thing i've had to do is my personal 'ritual' of reformatting every year or half yearish or so just for a fresh start forthe new games.

that said Toshiba Qosmios for gaming are another alternative if youre interested.

personally the only way i would get an Alienware ANYthing is if it was some sort of insane sale like 30-40% off like they just had on that calgary deals and discounts, the dell days of deals, you of course know Alienware is a subsidary company of Dell, so i would keep checking the dell website for the deals if youre bent on getting an Alienware.

I was in the same position as you. Buy this, it is much better than anything Alienware has within $1,000.

AGREED!

This thing is a beast. But has a hefty price tag, but dollar for dollar better then Alienware.

I have an ASUS W90VP and if I was going to buy another laptop the one in the link would be it. Can't go wrong with ASUS...alienware is way overpriced.

SWEET!

Thanks for saving me 500$! I don't need a backpack, a mouse, or a Tb drive.

Ive got that Asus laptop, it works great for me.
SC2 on Ultra, Battlefield Bad Company 2 Maxxed out.

A fair warning though, if you have not used a 17" laptop, be prepared, they are fucking huge!... full keyboard is nice though.

The backpack was actually useful also, and mouse.. not so much.

I own 3 Alienware laptops and a few of my friends have them as well.

Some people believe alienware are overpriced, its true they are expensive but you pay a premium for a premium product that type of thing will never change.

I have had 0 problems with my laptop and it runs everything I throw at it perfectly.

The only thing I did not like about the Asus was the build quality was not quite there compared to the Alienware IMO.

Looking forward to playing SC2 and Civ V properly. Been a long itme since i had something decent for games!

I don't really plan on taking that laptop anywhere, it's a desktop replacement. So it'll be perfect.

I paid 150 more than the sale price of yours. Not much difference, just depends on whether you want Blu-ray which I did.

my alienware laptop was top of the line(3 yrs ago), but in the last year, its gone to shit
hard drive crapped out. my upgraded video card crapped out, my LCD screen is fucked(need to use external moniter), the only thing that still works perfectly are the speakers/keyboard.

i wouldnt spend more money on another one.

I've had the Asus for several months now, it kicks ass, no problems so far, perfect except the battery will last under an hour.

Why don't you just get a desktop then? For the same price, you can always get a better spec desktop, and it has the potential to be upgraded later on too. Unless you do want to take it out occasionally.

Desktop wasn't an option. I have no room for it, and i travel for work and need to take my games with me.

I have steam. First thing i did was install civ 5. Going to rock that for a while, then pick install the sup com games. There is alot of games i haven't played. Basically any FPS post BF-2

the gtx260 is still a powerhouse so i'm sure you'll be more than satisfied with it at that price.
