Trying to get my brakes done avoiding the ford dealership. Now thinking they'd actually be cheaper than some auto places! Here's one quote: Front pads, rotors and rear pads, rotors (inc fluid, shims, callipers etc). $1279!!!! Is it me or that a crazy quote?

That is a pretty crazy quote man. I would say 100$ MAX for the front set of pads, and MAX the same for the back, but both are usually wayyy cheaper. Even with rotor replacements, i cant see rotors being more than 50-100$ each, so that puts you at 600, and i would say 2 hours labour would be acceptable. so, even 1000$ would be retarded, i would say 800 MAX

Depends on the vehicle... What are you talking about here... GT500, FuckUS or F350 - all are radically different... My buddy dropped over 2500 on brakes on his PSD F350 C/C - GT500 I don't even wanna guess what those rotors run... A focus - probably a tad high...

Rotors - 52 front (pair)
rotors - 86$ rear

Rockauto rules :) Um yeah... Did they at least let you bring in your tub of vaseline?

^^No shit...calipers gone already? i doubt it. Maybe they quoted you based on IF they need to replace calipers?

The quote included 80 bucks for 'caliper hardware'. Escape has 57,000km on it BTW, which makes it even more dubious.

check your brakelines, not sure if it was just the older ones that were prone to cracked brake lines.

if your calipers are still in working condition, just make you have them note that you do NOT need it replaced. a lot of dealers check most components and add it in saying it needed to be replaced

just do it yourself. or find some friend of a friend that is a good backyard mechanic and supply him with the parts and just pay his labour.

A buddy of mine have his Ford F150 truck (it's a 2003) and he said it cost him about $100 for replacing the brake pads on front side. My minivan is like about $75 for front brakes replaced.

Brake disc pieces are more cost if they're scarred over - usually they can be smoothed out depnding on how much thickness left on them.

You get a quote for $1279 by Ford dealership? Man, their labour rate must be real good. :nut:
