I currently have my car for sale right now on here and on a few other sites including the auto trader. Today I had a few leads and one guy asked me a few questions and then asked me what my lowest price was.

I got back to him and he wrote me back saying that he would take the car. He said he wanted to pay through Paypal and have a mover come pick uP the car once the money cleared In my account.

Right away I though Scam. Then I kept thinking about it and couldn't find a way that I could get ripped off. I wouldn't give him the car unless I had the money in my bank account, but really who pays $40,000 for a car through paypal without seeing it.

What do you guys think?

No doubt someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember hearing something about buyers getting a 'charge-back' through paypal after the sale by complaining to them - so you're out both a vehicle and the money.

That or the usual scam of they will accidentally pay too much via paypal and ask you to send them a cheque for the difference :dunno:

Either way - it does scream scam. Like you say - who pays that kind of money sight unseen?

Walk away from that. Tell him to wire the money direct to your bank - as your preference. Who ever heard of using paypal for THIS level of payment?

If the guy is for real and do have money - he can afford to wire it! It's no different than paypal - same thing. If he don't like this then ...WALK AWAY! No Sale!

Interact email transfers are easy and cut out all the bullshit. They are limited, though, to $1000 / payment and $4000 / week last time I used it.

I just had someone tranfer $2000 to my account using EMT in a single payment. Not sure if he needed authorization to do so though?
