Completed...

If this somehow turns into real thing, follow how 'Zipcar' does it in Vancouver/other US cities! :D

Hmm we never even heard of that.
We were trying to rip off that connect by Hertz thing.

We were gonna call it like "advil" or something but we didn't think anyone else in the class would understand our reference to Hertz.

And THANKS SO MUCH for all the responses.

Done.

It'd be cool if this were real and not just a research project. I think that a lot of students would make use of this.

Hertz Connect was created to combat Zipcar.

I get the concept for New York. But Calgary, it's seems to be quite expensive way to have access to a car compare to traditional rentals.

I answered honestly and put "not interested" as I own a car. I completed the survey but not sure if that helps or not.

$5/day for university students with high insurance costs? Dream on!

Considering the "student discount", I'd say that $150 to $200 for a weekend is probably a good ballpark. Enterprise charges $49/day for a full size sedan, plus taxes and stuff, and a young driver fee if you're 21-24. Their site says (without any discounts, mind you) for a young driver, total with tax, insurance fee and all is $250 to take a car out on a Friday and return it Monday morning from YYC.

thanks for being honest.
about 1/3 actually said not interested... not surprised as it's the same people who have cars and don't live on campus.

The way these programs are successful is for the hourly rate. Zipcar is very popular in places like NY, where a very small fraction of the residents own a car. Students in NY use it mainly for residential movings, grocery and airport runs. Cheapest car is $7/hr. In theory you can make a round trip to the airport in 2hrs = $14 vs $45 for a cab. For full days I used to rent, at least once a month, from Enterprise. Was only $14.99/day.
