The real estate tycoon turned reality TV host is thinking of a new career, again -- as president of the United States. Trump said via phone on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" Tuesday that he is looking at a possible 2012 bid because "this country will not be great if something isn't done rapidly."

"For the first time in life, I am absolutely thinking about it," Trump announced.

Except, this is not the first time. Trump has been flirting with the idea for nearly two decades.

He first suggested running on the Republican ticket in 1988. A decade later, in 1999, he used similar rhetoric as Tuesday, telling NBC’s Matt Lauer: “I’m serious. I’ve seen polls come out saying I could win.” Except then, he suggested he would run on the Reform Party ticket.

In 2007, Trump floated the idea of Oprah as his running mate.

On Tuesday, he said he will run as a Republican.

If history is any guide, Trump’s chances of winning, or even coming close, are very slim. Ross Perot, another billionaire businessman who founded the Reform Party, ran for president twice unsuccessfully.

A businessman who nearly bankrupted and bailed out by Asians.

America has already done it without Trump.

Eh..why not, how much worse could it get?

I bet he'll have a reality tv show just to pick his cabinet members too.

Running for president will shake out ALL the skeletons in one's closet. I don't think Donald would fair too well if & when it came to that.

Sounds like free publicity to me which Donald is very good at.

I hope he runs. Anything to further deplete his wealth, is a great step for humanity. "Douche Trump 2012"

Oh god no.

Yes, Trump would run to the worldwide banks to bail himself out of overextended and worthless land acquisitions - just like the British Royal Family.

The US hasn't declared bankruptcy, but California probably should have two decades ago.

Its all fine and good to own land when times are good, but you don't want to be the guy holding the bag when times are bad.

But if its a choice between Trump and a Pit Bull with Lipstick, I would still take Trump.

You have to remember though, Trump is much different the Perot and americans have a heavy desire to place celebrities above where they belong.

It would seem he's too 'showy' for most of the republican base though.
