View Full Version : Another Garage Door Question

One day I decide to buy myself a lift, so that I can park three cars in my garage. I did the measurements and with my 2 cars, it seems that it's feasible (barely) to have one stacked ontop of the other.

Unfortunately, I measured wrong :( (Yes, I've been the butt of a lot of jokes recently from my co-workers about this).

Anyways, I just need a few inches. When they built my house, they put a beam in the front third of the garage to support the rooms above it. Because of this, there's kinda a empty void area where I'm guessing my garage door could fit (and thus give me the added vertical space I need).

Anyone know if that's possible, or the costs? As well as who I would call to do this? (Maybe give me an estimate)?

Thanks!

Yeah get me to come look :) I can hook ya up, dunno about rolling down; been done before but it gets ugly... Shoot me a PM.

That's a Liftmaster 3800 on there isn't it? So you're already halfway there. But that looks like one of them dar new Wayne Dalton 9700s; 3 section door will make it ugly, but perhaps... All depends on dimensions really.

Looks a bit different today :D Still some fine tuning to go but...

For anyone wondering... Officially by the book he's 20" short of space for this conversion; By the installers book he's still a good 6-8" short... Totally custom install - but got it squeezed in without needing to roll down (ugly option) - hangs in the opening by about an inch.

Wow, impressive Andy, I don't think anyone could complain about an inch of overhang for that job.

No complaints!

Andy did an awesome job!

And even better, the car fits on the lift now! :)

Thanks again Andy!
