What's this all about? Sounds a bit sketchy...

Just a used car sale tactic...have a sale and sell the cars for $1000 cheaper than they were priced at the week before. Nothing new there.

I saw a different company do this aswell.

The catch is you only want to pay 5000 for the car. So youre going to wait untill it goes down. But Joe will pay the current price for it. So you dont get the car :P

carl holst special from calgary honda.

Start at 2500 by end of day if you dont pick it up it will be $1, usually on wholesale cars, so cars that need major work

I stopped by there and you should have seen the cars they has that were the $1 sales car.

They has a 1990 integra with half the front bumper missing and rusted to crap...didnt even clean the interior of it. A ford focus about in the same condition and some nasty station wagon. These cars were not worth anything more then $300-$500 and original asking price was like $2000 when I was there it was sitting at $1200...also was a porsche for sale with a bunch of nammers looking at....the rear end was so misalligned I would feel bad for anyone who bought it.

If you had a 1990 Integra on your lot that was rusted etc etc... And you just wanted to get rid of it, would you bother to clean it? I think not haha!

It's marketing. Car sales is a business not a charity. They have to turn a profit to keep people employed.

If someone took the time to strip and part the car, they could have made a bit of extra cash.

true, but i think dealers prefer to focus on selling whole cars, and leave that for the junkyards heheh :nut:

He meant for someone to buy the car and take time to part it out, so buy car for $1, part out car for $350 = profit, hehehe

I went to one of these sales at Calgary Honda (on Boxing Day nonetheless). Biggest scams ever. I'll bet you can go to Calgary Pick 'n Pull and find cars in better shape.

I actually work at Stampede and the $1 Sale prior to this I did actually sell a working car for $1. Was it pretty of course not. Was it high mileage yes. Did it need work, I would imagine so. Did it start and drive absolutley. Not a bad deal for a 1996 Nissan Sentra if you ask me.

I don't understand why a dealer would sell a car for $1. I mean, it's worth more as scrap. That doesn't make any sense at all. It's just a marketing tactic as others have mentioned.
