I'm looking at purchasing a quick & fun to drive inexpensive car. I know it may be rather hard on my budget but im not looking for anything crazy. My budget is $1000 - $2000 and i'm willing to look at most anything.. For example i'm looking at stock Acura Integra's, VW golf's, Honda Civic, Nissan 240sx.... Possibly with mods as well.. Quite cautious about budget...

**MY DEFINITION OF FAST IS NOT 12 sec CAR**

I just want something fun to drive!

What's Kickin Around?

Ive got a 1990 civic with B18b, ITR flywheel, tint, solid motor mounts, front and rear strut braces, lowered on I believe Koni yellows. It is really fast and super fun to drive. Send me a PM if you're interested.

Both those cars are complete projects and aren't worth anything.. I understand my budget is tight but im not looking for a crazy fast car.. something fun to drive and inexpensive.. I can get a '91 5.0L Stang for $3000 but i'm not willing to spend the extra $$..

Wow. I'm feeling so much beyond love...

Ok so I've found a 97 golf for $1000 or a 95 integra for $1500. Which one and why??

I am just being honest, i no way would I consider EITHER of those cars to be 'fast' or reliable to work on.

Minimum the car would have to run 14's to be fast. A jetta 1.8t runs 15's.

mikey_p
10-13-2010, 08:58 PM
I guess to make myself clear I'm NOT looking for a 14 sec or a 15 sec car. I will never track anything I purchase. I just want a reliable fun car to buzz around in. I mean for $1000 - $2000 I'm not gonna get anything great. I understand that.

maxomilll
10-13-2010, 09:15 PM
why not buy an old toyota truck? cheap reliable, fun for camping? defiantly in the other side of the spectrum tho..

Goodfella
10-13-2010, 09:22 PM
Any car could be fun depnding on how you drive. If you are not looking for a 12 second or track ready car I dont understand why you would require mods. I could assure you two things tho, a $2000 car will most likely break down on you or you will outgrow it in a short peroid of time. Good luck tho!!!!

Bizzareo

1. Save up 20 grand
2. Buy yourself something FAST and not have to deal with 2k shittyness
3.????
4. Profit

My boss purchased a 1992 Nissan Pulsar SX1600 for $1200.00

For him it is fun and a super cheap mode of transportation. He gets $1200.00 a month to vehicles so he can swap out every 2 or 3 months and still make 5 or 6k a year.

Point being that any car can be fun, my point was that none of these cars are going to be fast. I know you dont want to run 12's but a stock jetta or even my truck keeping up to you is FAR from fast.

Haha I suppose I'll keep my comments about mustangs to a minimum here. Either way, it isn't pretty but if the engine and tranny are good, could be "fast and fun."

6500 for a low KM Soarer with awesome rims and suspension mods is good. just because it needs a bumper its not over priced.

You always think you know so much about JDMS, go back to driftwest and troll there.

hahahaha, you know why i do know that i know a lot about imports?! any idea?

zomg awwwesum wheels and gay teins! woo! thats like... $800 worth of parts! IF you parted them out

go back to failing at driving, but this time instead of rear-ending someone, drive that heap off a cliff

EDIT: and anyone with half a brain knows you do not judge the kms on a import by the odo... you judge by the shape of the interior, body and engine

lol... Needs bumper, headlights / small inner oval lights, possibly a rad support, re-align bent front bumper supports, paint match etc... Just a bumper lol...

You don't need to know JDMs to see that car isn't worth 6500...

Car is worth 2g, coilovers $1000, rims $2900...lol

Edit: on another note, I have a decent parts car for building a high 14 second civic (EF hatch style - ran a 14.8 at Kayuga when he took it back for a roadtrip)... can runs / drives great, but I'm not paying $500 for a salvage... buy a running EF for $500, and buy this motor / tranny / everything combo for $2000 and you have yourself a "fun and fast" little car

How about a Volvo Turbo? Quick, full of options. Very strong engine. Believe it or not, most parts are cheap.

I know of one for sale, about $2000. Needs some work, but totally worth it.

Needs Windshield, Ignition Coil, perhaps a rad in the near future.

clearly too powerful to control, since you rear ended something

I seen over 50 Soarers in the last 3 years. ALL of them have more KMs than the car listed above, and in way better shape.

Its originally a 4cylinder car. Its still running the stock 4cyl WEAK rear end, the suspension is blown. The rust... Oh god the rust is god awful. Quick? My Non vtec automatic civic could beat it. Its literally a big bag of shit that should just be thrown out.

The soarer: If we were in the states right now and you were trying to sell that thing on a forum youd get flamed hard. $6500 for a crashed JDM car... FUCK THAT. I Still laugh at some of the people selling their GTR's for $8000+ here, MAX id pay is about $5000 for an old beat to crap JDM car. REMEMBER its 2010, almost 2011... I still find it funny at how dumb people are spending shit load of money on cars that were made in the 90's.. You want a project? $2000 and thats it!

Sell that soarer for $2500 and youll have bites! Part your shit off of it and try and muster some of the money you put into it back into your pocket.

I just bought that 94 ford aspire on this site, and so far it's about the most fun i've ever had in a car.

1.3L 4 cyl, gutted interior... anything can be fun as long as you beat the hell out of it.

^ Wow those cars are STUPIDLY rare.

$5k though?.

I used to have a IROC Camaro and a Trans am GTA. Both handled INCREDIBLY well with some mild suspension/tire upgrades. With an engine swap; you can toss anything from a I4 (IronDuke) to a BBC, and you're good to go. So performance is definitely a big possibility.

Their also quite fun to drive. Im sure it wont be hard to find a nice one with little or no rust around your price point.
Try to go for an auto, the autos they came with were bulletproof. The T5 Manual sucked.... it would blow up quite easily. (Thats the reason the 5.7 350 never came with the manual, auto only)
Besides the aftermarket support is incredible. Endless stuff you can buy for those cars.

Anyways, that is all I've had to add to this thread. I've seen a LOT of good deals for fun, relatively fast cars for under $3k the past week or so. Your best bet is to browse Kijiji's under $5k car section every day.

I once saw a kid at secret street one night who was running a rusty beater, late 80's turbo 300zx, around the high13's... Said he paid a few hundred bucks for the thing, and he threw a MBC on it... Can't really beat that for speed/$

buy a rwd.
saw on calg kijiji a 200sx sr20det fs incomplete project. 2000 and they might deliver

dont buy a honda.. the H stands for hold on im still trying to accelerate.

toyota, nissan, mazda you will have a lot of fun

toyota:
mr2 (mr)1st gen (500-1500 for something decent)
lightweight body
high rev
LOVE the cloth interior.

6spd 4age itb silvertop+ecu = 1000
170 hp on something half the weight of an integra.

ae86 (fr)
excellent to learn how to drift on.
50/50 weight distribution for hatch
48/52 for coupe (lighter and stronger frame of the two)
mods galore

nissan:
240sx (s13 is cheapest)
arguably one of the cheapest cars to mod for drifitng right now.
500-1000 for car... do a ka24de bore+sleeved+turbo and internals = 2500

280zx,z 260z
classic but fun to drive. engine is perfect for tuning for turbo.
2.8L 7.3 compression ratio

mazda
323gtx
someone posted it... that will be fun.

rx7 .... maintenance might be a bit expensive but definitely a fun car.
btw the fd picks up chicks. (maybe 4000 for something that needs aesthetic work)
the fc is a bit cheaper and in your price range.

I found a z31 300zx that I'm interested in but the turbo needs rebuild. It's 2500 so it's a bit pricey considering the work. It's nice though. Or a mk3 supra for 2500. Bone stock. Gotta watch for headgasket though.
