Is this a scam? or is there reasons to get this paint coating thing that they claim will prevent rusting.

I'm guessing you're talking about the "special coating" they try to upsell you on at the dealership when buying a new car...It's crap. Nothing more than a cheap coat of wax. Save the money and just take care of your new car.

:dunno:

I fucked up my gf's 3M the other day. Had a glob of sap on the hood and I was using the car wash power washer to take it off and it ripped into it :banghead: , I was gonna have the C-Class 3M'd but now I'm staing away from it cause of that incident.

I thought you meant you actually bought seperate insurance for your paint from your insurance company

I'm not a big fan of the 3M stuff. I've yet to see it on a car where you can't notice a big line across the hood unless the car has been freshly washed.

Also when they offer the rust protection, in order to be eligible to make a claim you have to have a through and through perforation from rust-not surface rust. Not likely to happen in the time you own the car unless you move out East.

Last new car I bought I declined all extra add on's like that, no glass protection, no fabric protection, no rust/paint/soundproofing etc. etc. etc. Those are the dealerships big money makers.
