When making an offer on a home why does it seem that its lucky to get barley anything off the price?

If i look at a car for $10,000 and get $1k off thats 10% i reduced. Try that with a home and the seller would laugh at you it seems.

Every seller has a different situation and motivation for selling.

I've had cases (and I'm sure many, many other realtors have had the same experience) where I've been able to negotiate 5-10% off,.. but on the same coin,.. some some have been so tough i could barely get $1000 off.

There is no norm for asking price. Just have to take current selling prices of what the houses around and their list/selling price % and go from there.

It's kind of obvious. 10% on an average priced house is almost $40,000.

People won't miss $1000, they will definitely miss $40g's

All depends on market value of the home. If it's priced to low you could be competing and pay more.

Did your realtor not go over comps with you prior to writing an offer?

We haven't got a realtor yet.

After seeing some of the prices here i think i might go back to BC.

LOL, and right now prices are at an all time low.

Best you look in a small town if you want prices comparible.
