I picked up a project recently & being my first hands on project, I'm pretty keen to get started.

There is rust in front of the rear wheels & above the front glass.
The windscreen requires replacement & the paint in general is badly faded.

The wheels were in pretty bad shape as well so those needed to be cleaned.Add to that the previous owner decided to install locknuts & did not supply the key so i ended off having to buy a socket to remove the wheels.

A few pics:

So after round 2 of cleaning, the engine bay was finally free of the huge chunks of gunk!
It was worthy enough to be brought into the garage for me to start tackling the the body.
After a bit of grinding, I realised some sheetmetal work was required to get this body looking like new.

Also stumbled upon a crack in the paint on the right fender.
Gently ground that down & found it packed with body filler as well.
So, I'm contemplating finding a replacement panel for this as well.

For the rest of my build, feel free to offer advice & if you know of parts available to make my build simpler, please feel free to point me in the right direction.
As i said, being new to canada, I'd be appreciative of any help possible.
More pics of rust to follow.

I'm thinking of grinding away all the filler to figure out why the dude laid that filler on a decent fender.
Anybody think that's a bad idea?

Also, The repairs on the rear fender seems to consist of new sheetmetal placed over rusted panel then the joints were filled & smoothed.:banghead:
My reason for saying this is I managed to grind thru a small patch of rust on the sheetmetal & found lotsa rust below.
So basically i have a li'l hole filled with rust but surrounded by perfectly good metal.
It can be seen that under the good metal is a good layer of rust.
Should i cut all this away & try buildup the panel myself (alternatively find replacement panel) OR should i cover it with body filler & forget about it?:drama:

I spent some time on the fender last night.
Turns out the filler was there to hide pressure dents....normally caused by resting elbows on the fenders whilst working in the engine bay.

It's gona be a li'l more work but i'm gona try knock out these pressure dents from behind.
I don't have pics to illustrate this since my cam more than likely won't show the slight dents

Progress is quiet slow since i'm trying to juggle time between work, family, gym & the car.
Add to that shopping for Parts is quiet time consuming as well.

spent some time on the car over the passed few days.
Managed to get the following done:
-disconnect electrical & piping. Now ready for motor to be pulled
-Closed a deal on an EG with B16 drivetrain & disc braking (took delivery yesterday-pretty stoked about that

Rhis is what the bay looks like now

So its been a while since my last update so here you go.
I been pretty caughtup with general work & family life but i managed to squeeze a few wrenching hours in.
I pulled off the right rear suspension on the EG.
That took the better part of 2nights since the first night i realised I was short of some much needed tools. Picked those up the next day & i was sorted
Below is a closer pic of the caliper.
Its painted red but laiden with dirt. Plan is to get it cleaned then decide if it still requires paint or not

This passed weekend I spent some time with a buddy working on the EF.
I needed to have the motor out so my buddy can prep & paint whilst i continue with the stripping of the EG suspension.Since the hoist arrived later th\n expected, I left the engine removal for another day.

On the upside, we managed to remove the entire front suspension & a fewbody items like tails & rear garnish

today I decided to pull the motor & bright spark Myz forgot to drain the gear oil.
As a result, as the motor was lifted, oil started to pour out which left one heck of a mess to cleanup
Me pulling off mount bolts whilst the hoist suports the motor.
(Thanks to Mark for Loaning me the Hoist. Appreciate it!)

Pulled off the indicators to remove the bumper & look at all the gunk that's accumulated in there.
Add to that, the lenses are in dire need of a refurbishment. Gona have to google that & get right on it.

And So the cleaning began....
And THIS was the result after the first round.
I'll be tackling the entire engine bay again tomorrow, this time with a paint brush, tooth brush & some scouring pads.
Need this bay spotless before i start painting.

I'm sure you agree the difference is amazing:eek:

I'm also going to pay some attention to the front valence as well.
Just get it cleaned up enough to apply some paint toward the centre behind where the air dam is.
Then with the bumper in place, the back will have the clean deep black look. Gotta love it!

Shiit engine bay looks clean, don't think it needs to be sprayed now! Do a engine harness tuck and wire tuck while you have the motor out.

I don't want to sound like an ass, but even after grinding you can still see oxidized metal in the pictures. Bondo if done well, will hold up for a year or two, then you'll see bubbling again. At the very least, coat it with Por15 before primer.

An update from the li'l work I managed to execute today.
I cleaned those li'l grooves & hard to reach areas in the bay & removed the air intake resevoir which was evidently serving no purpose.I then tried to remove the clutch cable along with the pedal assembly considering my new drivetrain is hydraulic.
I obviously wasn't thinking & after battling for access for a while, I figured i'd tackle the passenger side wiring harness instead.I didnt realise at the time, I coulda stripped the steering column & under covers from the dash to get better access.

After removing the heater/ventilation unit (which i no longer intend installing)I managed to get rid of the sound deadening material & finally got access to the point where the harness enters the engine bay.So i figured out how to get the harness back into the car, nut how about routing it thru the fender? I needed to find the shortest route into the fender even if it meant me drilling. The one thingi didnt wana do is cut my wiring for purposes of lengthening.

This is pretty much where i stopped but i was sure to take a good look at the fuse box as well.
It seems its going to be a breeze relocating that to the inside of the car.
Plan for tomorrow includes a bit of masking & strpping insulation off the harness tofind the easiest way to get the harness re-routed.
A few pics from today's work is below but i'll update with a few more pics tomorrow as well.

Ok...
So here's another update.
After being away for a few day's I returned & threw all my effort into catching up for lost time.
The engine bay was given a final wipedown before masking & spraying. These pics were taken before the bay was 100% complete.I guess you could call them work in Progress pics.

Also had some buddies come over & lend a hand.
Managed to get the entire front suspension off the EG as well as lifted the motor & tranny out.

As It stands now, the motor is ready to go into the EF bay.
Waiting on a set of Mounts.
(Feel free to contact me if you have a set available since the quicker i get hold of a set, the better)
Whilst waiting on the mounts, I intend pulling off the driver side rear suspension on the EG & swapping the entire rear into the EF.

Not much progress to feedback on, on the build.

I merely spent the passed Sunday in Calgary closing deals & picking up a good few goodies for my build.
Most items were used but in great condition apart from needing a good clean

Thanks to the guys that came out to meet me & those those that didn't, thanks for making arrangements for your mates to get stuff to me.

I havn't done much over the passed few days.
Been pushing myself a bit too hard recently & depriving myself of rest.
The result: I'm barely managing to stay awake at work or whilst driving.

Therefore I took things real easy over the passed weekend.
All i got done was remove the last bit of thr suspension (Right Rear) & started removing clutch lines which I'll be requiring.
Didn't get to complete that task.
Sorry i have no pic updates but i'm hoping to make some headway by Friday.
Would like the rear suspension installed on the EF & that's a fair bit of work considering the original suspension hasn't been pulled off yet.

I've created a thread on the FS section for components that's available for sale off the EG.If nobody takes it, its gona be dumped so bump up my thread.I merely need to make up the towing & disposal fee so that's why i'm trying to sell of whatever i can for as little as i can.The Link:Civic EG Stripping (http://forums.beyond.ca/st/321656/civic-eg-gtstripping/)

I'll update you guys with pics by the end of the week.
Hopefully things go according to plan & you'll be able to see the suspension all done with my newly purchased goodies as well.

Hey Guys,

Sorry for the lack of updates.
Juggling between physio appt's (nursing a shoulder injury since May), work & family, it's leaving me pretty short on time BUT....That's a poor excuse.
I havn't been physically working on the car but some effort has been going on behind the scenes.
Arranged to have a paintshop dude come by & take a look at the car today. Giving his pricing some serious thought. I'll let you guys know on the final price once the paintjob is done.
But basically, we managed to outlay what was going to be his responsibility & what was going to be mine.
If all goes according to plan, he'll be ready to take my car in, in Jan & will need it for 2weeks (max).
That'll give me sufficient time to get the mechanicals assembled & the bodywork stripped.

I still havn't gotten around to ordering the mounts & hydraulic kit.
I think its cos i know with my luck, i'll order the stuff then find somebody selling it for half the price the next day.
I gotta stop putting it off tho. Will order it by early next week if all goes well.

As far as physical work on the car goes, I'm off this friday so i'm hoping to put some effort into the EF.I'll be sure to take pics cos i know THAT's what we all enjoy when following a build thread.
Stay Tuned!

Thanks for all the positive comments guys.
This weekend was a busy one & even tho i didn't get a whole lot done, I managed to take care of some stuff so it wasn't a total waste.

Firstly, I decided to go the cable tranny route since this would save me some $ as well as avoid further delays.
I was lucky enough to pickup a YS1 non LSD tranny the day after i posted my need for one.
Thanks Jonathan (think that was his name-lol)
If not, you know who you are dude....thanks alot.
The tranny needs a mere clean which I intended doing today but more about that a li'l later on in this post
http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g389/MyzEF/IMG_2986.jpg

http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g389/MyzEF/IMG_2988.jpg

Then onto the physical work on the car...
I needed to pull off the EG prop valve & maybe even master cylinder so I got going on that.
Battled quiet a bit cos those dam nuts on the pipe going into the valve were so soft & were stripping quicker than a lady @ Showgirls/Teasers-Haha:bigpimp:
Finally, I resorted to cutting the pipes:whipped:
In the end, I was left with this
http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g389/MyzEF/IMG_2989.jpg

Then, I moved onto the EF.
Not sure if i mentioned before but I failed to get the area behind the driver side shock tower well coated with paint so i'm gona need to pull the master cylinder & wiring harness & get the area painted.
Wel today, I didn't get it painted:poosie:
Instead, I pulled the harness into the car & re-routed it along the under of the fender.
In other words, I completed the 1st half of the wire tuck.
Before you take a look at the pics, I realise some of us are perfectionists or are OCD BUT, even though i partially fit into that category, I didn't have the time/tools to this this as neatly as i woulda liked to-I'm specifically referring to the hole i drilled.
Entire harness pulled into the car

The End product, the harness passing through the hole
http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g389/MyzEF/IMG_2983.jpg

That harness loosely zip tied in place. Will be secured when I'm doing final assembly. In this way I can pull the harness into the car or out of the car for whatever reason may arise
http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g389/MyzEF/IMG_2984.jpg

And Finally, this is what the area where the harness used to reside, now looks like
http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g389/MyzEF/IMG_2985.jpg

Keep in mind, there are one or 2 cables that will still need to enter the bay through here (eg, brake fluid resevoir wires) but i'll try hide it by zip tying it to brake pipes etc,
interesting point to note is if i drilled a slightly bigger hole, or lets just say a perfectly round hole, I would not have needed to cut any wires.
Due to the poor hole, I cut 2 light plugs about an inch away from the plug the re-joined them-no biggie:D

By this time, It was pretty late but i was still amped to get stuff done.
Since i already have the EG rear suspension off the car, i'm gona need to install the LCA's & trailing arm bushes before installing the entire suspension on the car.
But these items required some cleaning so....I decided to jump on that.
Being pretty cold, & working in a garage that isn't heated, I went ahead to work in the spare bathroom.
Lucky thing the Mrs was asleep by then-lol

http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g389/MyzEF/IMG_2991.jpg

The braces still need polish to get the true shine of the aluminium but take a look at previous pics of these items & you'll see the difference.

Tomorrow, I'll order the mounts & then we'll be well on our way again.

Oh, I almost forgot...

I went & picked up a big drip tray to place parts in when getting them washed....this refers to mechanical parts with grease, oil etc.
Looked at CT & NAPA for degreaser but all they had was degreaser in an aerosol can.
Where can i get this stuff in a regular 1L or 2L or even 5L can?
Back home we get them similar to how we buy antifreeze or oil here-in big jugs.
Then we'd use a paint brush or something similar & wash the parts.
If we couldnt get degreaser, we'd use gasoline or diesel.
Dude at NAPA gave me the impression washing with gasoline is frowned upon here since its flammable.
So yeah....If i can get my hands on degreaser, I'll be able to wash my cable tranny & complete motor, then mate the 2 together.
By then, hopefully the mounts are here.

Myz
12-09-2010, 12:43 AM
Okay guys....You're probably starting to think this is an abandoned project.
I assure you its FAAAR from that.

I managed to pickup 2 extra cans of black paint to touch up the bay as well as some diesel to wash the engine & tranny.
I know degreaser was a better option but i couldnt find it in any other form than in an aersol can. that doesn't work well for me so I opted for Diesel.

Gave the motor & cable tranny a rough wash down & whilst the motor looks cleaner, the cable tranny is just a lost cause-lol.
I decided today that i'm gona pipckup a fine wire wheel & attach it to my drill & give it a fine brush off.
There seems to be lotsa black paint (or chassis paint) on it & that should help.
Once i get thru that stuff, I'll try another wash down.

I'm still waiting on the arrival of my mounts which i'm hoping should be here by early next week at the latest.
Once the mounts arrive, I'll progress at a faster rate.

You kinda ran the headlight harness wrong, you should have made it come out from the place where the door harness comes out from, and then run it through the chassis (that little tunnel that the fender goes over) and cut the end of the tunnel to obtain the harness. This way it will be much "safer" in the long run.

http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g389/MyzEF/IMG_2983.jpg

You kinda ran the headlight harness wrong
I choose to see it as i ran it "Differently" :bigpimp:

I know about running it where the door harness exits but i was trying to reduce the possibility of cutting & lengthening the harness due to too much backward travel during the routing process.
Regarding the harness running outside the channel as opposed to inside, this was quicker & easier & will be protected by the fender liner.
In the event i have a wiring issue, simply pulling off the fender will give me access as opposed to removing the fender then pulling the harness all the way out of the channel before being able to troubleshoot.

Don't forget, this is a track car-not a show car:D

Fine you choice I did it this way on my eg and and after awhile the fender liner kinda got ripped to shit for being to low and oh man did the harness look like a mess after it had been driven in snow and rain lol just from my experience, i ran it properly on my Ek and I was statisfied with the work this time looked so much original!

Oh Don't worry about looks if it's a track car bro lol

Yeah...I know what you mean.
I finally pulled off the fender liner on my previous car cos of it being too low.
But with the way i'm setting this suspension up, i'm really doubtful the liner will make contact with my tires. Worse case scenario, I'll zip tie to a bit higher up

It's been so long since I've done an update on this that i feel I been neglecting this thread & neglecting the project.

So what's been going on in the background?
Well, for starters, I been chasing down those damn mounts.
Being xmas period, things are really backed up with postage.
last update I had on Fri was that they flew outa La on Dec 7th so I had the seller chase them up with USPS.
Got an update yesterday that they were released from Canadian customs on Sat so i'm hoping they arrive by Thurs this week.

I found myself a set of linkages as well as the rear bracket.
Havn't made payment yet cos i been pretty caughtup with family stuff & christmas.
The seller is pretty cool though & is happy to hold the stuff til I get my life in order-lol (I'll be sure to bump up his rep:bigpimp: )

I spent a bit of time over the weekend trying to cleanup the cable tranny.
The dirt seems pretty baked on so I resorted to working with a wire wheel on my drill. Worked real well.
Yesterday I went onto using a scotchpad & soap water to clean off the grease/oil still visible.
Once all this is done, I'll be finishing it up with a good coat of paint. picked up some Duplicolor hi heat paint which should have it looking new.
Hoping to complete this task by Thurs.

Then i'm gona tackle the trailing arms.
Much simpler cos there's no grease/oil involved. I'll just cleanoff using the wire wheel then paint.

Look out for pics in the next update.

This update was long overdue with festive season & me being sick through it all.
Anyway, excuses aside, I finally got my AAA into gear & got things going again.

Firstly, The cable tranny was finally clean enough & ready for paint & this was the result

http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g389/MyzEF/IMG_3104.jpg

http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g389/MyzEF/IMG_3105.jpg

I had to resort to spraying in the bathroom since my garage was too cold & the basement....well, lets just say i was afraid of using a spraycan in close vicinity of the furnace:eek:

Next up was cleaning the suspension components & brakes.
I aimed at cleaning the control arms to remove the baked on mud & crap that was on them. The followup to this was to paint them black but I figured what the heck, they won't be seen anyway & the black won't last too long anyway
This is what they look like now.

After
http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g389/MyzEF/IMG_3037.jpg

Since I wasn't too thrilled with the rough finish on these calipers, I picked up a rotary tool & gona try grind away some of the rough surfaces. I like seeing the caliper paint look smooth & hopefully, dirt won't stick on it the way they did on the paintjob the last owner did
The smoothing process hasn't started cos at this point, I was laid down with the flu.:barf:

One last pic...The paint I picked up for the calipers

Next on my plan of action was Cleaning the wheels I had.
I figured with a respiratory problem, grinding, sanding & cleaning with harsh chemicals wasn't so wise:nut:
So i moved onto cleaning the rims.....These rims are up for sale at the moment though.
I guess if I don't sell or trade them, I'll just put them on afteral, the difference between 15's & 16's on a track should be minimal....just the tire costs thats:eek:

So Onto the rim cleaning...

Hasport mounts
http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g389/MyzEF/IMG_3122-1.jpg

Now, I simply gotta re-install the fork, then uncouple the hydro tranny, couple the cable tranny & drop the motor into place.
That's on the cards for this weekend.

Since one of my buddies may be coming over to give me a hand, I'll probably get ahead of the game by getting the body panels stripped for spraying. My paint guy is going to be ready for me end Jan, Begin Feb.

Parting Note:
I realised when i was taking a pic of the mounts that i never uploaded a pic of these....I received them in Nov (i think)

Yet Another Untimely update...

FINALLY coupled the motor & new box which is a totaly PITA if you're working by yourself. Eventually had my wife come give me a hand & i got it all coupled.
Then lifted it off & dropped into the car.
This turned out to be much more of a mission than anticipated.
I can't say that all the hassles were surprises though.
I guess I was naive enough to think I'd get away with it.

The Old Front mount bracket needs to be cut off.

I battled for quiet a while but finally got the bolt threaded thru the Tranny side mount

As I mentioned earlier, I ASSUMED i was good for the driver side mount bracket but i was wrong. With the mount bolted to the bracket, it doesn't lineup with the post.

TOdays update

So after the 4-5 hrs of effort my buddy & i put into the car today, anybody walking in woulda said we did nothing.
The intention was to get the motor wired then move onto piping.
However, part of wiring was seperating the engine harness from the headlight harness.
The headlight portion is going to run under the fender so It had to be pulled into the car.
Most of you may recall id already done the driver side but couldnt do this side cos of insufficient space to pull off the fender.
Well, with a helping hand today, i got the car moved & the fender off.

Without going into too much detail, we had the motor 80% wired & we decided to unplug & re-loom the harness.
There were cables that were short & due to it being pulled to ensure it reached, I ended off with my dizzt connectors sitting halfway across the motor behind the intake mani.

So in the end, everything was unplugged with the intent to re-loom & maybe extend a few cables if necessary.
Ièm going to be printing a copy of the ecu diagram as well to help us along.
Sorry for the lack of pics cos i was more eager to get it done than get take pics of my buddy working.

No progress will take place this wknd since i i have family commitments.
Expect some good inorovements early part of next week

Yet Another update...

I spent the past weekend in EDM closing a few deals & picking up some stuff for my build.
Then on my return, I took care of the mods on my EF harness ie. dizzy & injector plug changes.

1st up was changing the plugs on the dizzy...
At first i was going to makeup a jumper harness cos i have both OBD0 & OBD1 harnesses available.
Then i found it to be pretty easy to de-pin & re-pin the plugs.

Some vital info for those that havn't done this before (people like me:angel: )
When attempting to remove the grommet/insulator from the back of the OBD1 plug, run a flat screw driver around the circumference of the grommet. Simply rotating it around will break the seal & even start to raise it off the base.
If you try to pry it off without running it around the circumference, you tend to dig into the grommet & its breaks as it comes off.
I decided to take pics a li'l late but here are the ones i took
Wires transferred over to OBD1 plug.
You can clearly see how the grommet/insulation gets installed.I slit the grommet to get it over the wires. I figured its easier than trying to pass the wires thru the hole with the pin still on the wire....especially in the case of the thicker cables.http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g389/MyzEF/IMG_3217.jpg

Completed the 1st plug
http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g389/MyzEF/IMG_3220.jpg

Initial Pic showing Wiring layout.
I was sure to take pics & also make a drawing.
I really didn't wana mess up with the wrong wiring layout upon re-assembly
http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g389/MyzEF/IMG_3216.jpg

white cover removed thus exposing clips holding the pins in place
http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g389/MyzEF/IMG_3225.jpg

At first i was working with 2 screw drivers....one to life the clip up & the other to push out the pin. Very difficult when you're working alone.
So, I resorted to using a spade connector to slide between the clip & the pin.
Then place the plug on the edge of a table & pushed the pin out with a fair amount of force whilst at the same time pulling the wire from the back.
You'll note that I did not remove the grommets from the cable first. I did not have a screw driver small enough to do this. As a result, the pin/wire combo pulled out with the grommet attached to it.

This is what it looked like when i started the re-asssembly
http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g389/MyzEF/IMG_3222.jpg

END PRODUCT
http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g389/MyzEF/IMG_3235.jpg

I also attempted de-pinning the injector plugs but that mission was a fail:facepalm:
So, I resorted to cutting & soldering the wires.
I was concerned at first about the polarity etc but Its pretty easy once you look at the cables on both harnesses. There is a common color that runs on all 4 injector plugs.
Make sure these colors match up.
Then, you can solder the remaining colored cable to the other pin.
Insulate the joint & You're All Done

Myz
03-30-2011, 11:48 PM
Apart from this, lotsa effort went into figuring out the actual wiring layout in the bay.
As i mentioned previously, one or 2 cables were short SO, i removed the loom insulation from most of the harness to give more flexibility.
Laying out the harness on the floor, you can pretty much see where everything plugs in....well.....that's where the head aches began. :banghead:

I had only 1, 3wire plug on the harness & i knew the TPS & map were both 3wire connectors.
I wrecked my brain on this for 2 days, then went & took a look in the car.
Turns out the map sensor runs into the bay seperately so its all there:clap:
With that said, the intent was to do wiring today but now i'm coming down with the dam flu again (3rd time in 3months)

Anyway, i'm high on meds right now so hopefully I'll wakeup in better shape tomorrow:dunno:

Update:
I havn't been updating this thread but I been busy making progress in the interim.

I think its safe to say we're 90% complete with wiring the motor.
Ran into hassles figuring out the thermostat plug & wiring along with knock sensor wiring.
Managed to figure all of that stuff out.
So as it stands, all i gotta do is connect the additional sensor wires to the jumper harness & wiring will be 100% complete.

The passenger side headlight harness is pulled into the cabin.
Just needs to be run along the outside to complete that side of the wire tuck.

I've ordered new balljoing & tierod ends along with radiator hoses, valve cover gasket & a few other goodies. Once that arrives, I'll be ready to startup.

Issue i've come across now is the radiator sits a bit far to the right, so using the original upper radiator hose results in the hose pressing against the oil pressure switch plug. That's definitely not healthy so i'm left trying to figure out whether i'm gona find a hose to suit the application or fork out cash for an EF radiator.:drama: The radiator i've got mocked up right now is an EG radiator.
(feel free to share your thoughts on this issue)

I've also been doing some online dealings & picked up a few good deals apart from the O2 sensor i needed.
I'll let you guys know what these goodies are, once i have them in my hands:poosie:

Its been faaar too long since I had an update so here goes.....
After getting everything fully asssembled on Sunday 2 weekends ago, I turned the key & Voila.....NOTHING! ! ! ! ! !
Not even a crank of the motor much less the fuel pump kicking in.
It was too late & i was too tired to figure it out so I left it for the next day.
10Min after troubleshooting I found I'd left a plug outa the fuse box in the enginebay.
Now i was getting the fuel pump going but still no turn of the motor.
After a few hours of troubleshooting, I felt like a total idiot when I found the fault.
I Didn't have the clutch in, each time i tried to start the car:facepalm:
(Note, back home we don't use the clutch when trying to start a car)

So long story short, the motor fired up @ approx 22:30:clap: & with no exhaust, I get the feeling my neighbours weren't my biggest fans that night:guns:

Next up was throwing some wheels on but I found that one of the axles had the thread slightly damaged so I tried to recut the thread with a die.:dunno:
I was unsuccessful & coupled with the fact i think the shafts are binding, I'm gona be ordering a set of 90-93 Teg shafts.
That should solve all my issues:thumbsup:

Before i go on, I owe thanks to a few guys:
Marc for loaning me his hoist....For about 4 months
Jonathan for loaning me wheels to move the car around with
Zee(streethondas) for helping me secure the Hood & storing it for me

Apart from all this, I been busy accumulating other goodies & installing some of them on the car.

I did my injector wires the last week from putting a tiny screw driver in the front on top of both of the 2 metal slides that go over the connector on the injector. but all the way back and twist the screw driver 90 degrees and pull the wire out. No cutting and it looks oem clean, but I used blue injector clips from a volkswagen in the junk yard.

Seems i didnt need an adjusting nut or new cable afteral.
Guess having home reno's on your mind whilst trying to troubleshoot a car (without standing in front of the car) is pretty difficult & misleading.
Turns out i need a different bracket that bolts onto the tranny & holds the cable.
I had the wrong backet installed (the hydro bracket) & when i tried installing the cable one off my D16, the bolt holes are positioned differently.
Anyway I'm gona look around my garage for the other bracket & maybe even do a bit of research to check what bracket it is that i should be using.

On the motor front, I'm probably gona be advertising my B16 longblock pretty soon.
It has a set of buddy Club cams (or was it skunk....dam i gota go back & check) so i'm guessing it'll be a good upgrade for someone wanting a li'l more grunt out of a daily drive B16:thumbsup:

That means.....You guessed right, My Race Motor is ready & is being broken in as we speak.

I should be making a trip to EDM to pick it up pretty soon so you guys can imagin how stoked I am.
There's also a set of hard race balljoints waiting for me in EDM.
From there on, I guess all thats left is my intake (I gotta make a few calls & go pick it up), & a set of tires.

I was aiming to paint the car before i took her out for the 1st run but i figured SCREW IT!:nut: :nut:
I'm far too impatient so I'm gona be heading to a few track days in its shameless state :bigpimp: , then retiring to the paintshop once winter comes round.

Quick Update.

I managed to get the intermediate shaft & axle installed (on driver side).
The passenger side shaft was seized on the hub.
Got a buddy of mine to press it out so I'll be getting it back tomorrow.
A li'l worried about the bearing if the guys at his shop used heat to remove the shaft.
We'll have to see how things go.:dunno:

In the interim, I finally wired up the O2 sensor & sorted out the plug to the IACV.
Now, she starts up & idles smooth without throwing any codes:clap:

I also continued working on the wire tuck.
Driver side tuck is complete (a few months ago) & started working on the passenger side today.Found that i'm gona need to lengthen a few wires which will be done over the next few days.

Aiming at completing the wire tuck by Fri. I'm trying to push hard on the progress since my race motor is almost ready I wana be able to jump in & drive once i drop that motor in :bigpimp:

Time for a Pic update.

I completed the install of the front suspension on both side after my buddy helped free the seized shaft.
I took the liberty of doing the hardrace extended balljoints whilst the hubs were off.

I also went on to finally install the earls brake lines.
Never realised those nuts on the oem brake lines strip so easily.
Held the propane torch on it a li'l then turned the nut with ease using the waterpump pliers. This was what it looked like after pulling off the oem pipe

Comparison of OEM vs Earls

I also changed the tie rod ends at the same time.
http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g389/MyzEF/Picture005.jpg

This is what it looks like now. The brake line looks a bit twisted.
Thats cos it is. I sorted that out after i took this pic.
http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g389/MyzEF/Picture008.jpg

I guess the only other items to replace on the front now are control arm bushings (currently researching), upper camber arms (on order) & MAYBE a fresh set of coil overs but that's a luxury right now:nut:

Since i'm really pushing to get things done, I move onto something else when i come up against a delay.
So i've been spending time on the rest of the wire tuck.
Im not as far as i'd like to have been cos of a host of issues.....the main one being that i came across a 2nd harness that i'll be picking up in a few weeks. That's help tremendously with my wire tuck.
I DID however pull the cables into the car & this is what the engine bay looks like now
http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g389/MyzEF/Picture019.jpg

http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g389/MyzEF/Picture020.jpg
I'm not too concerned about working on hiding the cables on the motor iself cos the motor comes out again pretty soon. Then i'll be able to hide the wiring on the motor whilst its on the floor, then drop it all into position.

I also decided to relocate the battery to behind the passenger seat.
Figured if the bays gona free of wiring, I should hide the battery as well.
To do this, i first needed to clean the workspace so I went from THIS
http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g389/MyzEF/Picture011.jpg

To This
http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g389/MyzEF/Picture009.jpg

So i got my hands on some excess cabling to run from the engine bay to the battery.
This is what it all looks like now

This is where the battery will reside.
http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g389/MyzEF/Picture026.jpg
I picked up the eye terminals today so this wknd, I plan on HOPEFULLY finishing the wiring & starting her up to check for any faults.

Now, I need some inoput from you guys...
This is what the centre consol area looks like currently
http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g389/MyzEF/Picture027.jpg

Since the car wont have a radio, i first figured i'd position it there, but its not gona be very functional if its that far out of view.
Should Imount gauges in the
-aircon control area
-air vent area with a custom moulded panel to fully replace the vents
-buy a 3gauge pod & screw it down above tha vents?

Oh, & ANOTHER THING,
Should I remove the sound deadening material before installing the battery bracket or is it not worth the effort.

Thanks for the input guys:poosie: :poosie: :poosie:

Anyway, another update.
Most of my effort has been spent on sorting out the wiring & basically trying to wrapup the wiretuck.
Admitted, its probably not as smart/neat as others out there but i'm pretty please with it this far.
The engine harness hasn't been tucked yet.
I plan on doing that with the motor outa the car.

I took the liberty of connecting a toggle switch for the ECU Codes

From my post last week, you'd be able to see in improvement in the wiring near the ECU.

Lastly, I wrecked my brain trying to find solutions for the wiper motor wiring.
Finally found a grommet closer to the shock tower than the original big opening.
The problem however was still hiding the plug since the male portion of the plug (attached to the motor) has very li'l slack to allow for relocation.
So I removed the plate onto which the wiring passes thru & this gave me flexibility i needed to repositiopn the way the cable exited the motor.
Previously the plug faced the fender.
I've now got it not only facing the driver side but also manged to pull it under so it can/will be concealed by the brakelines etc.
The color of the plug is a bit of a giveaway but i'm working on trying to find a plug so I can simply depin & repin. I'll also change the insulation on the outside. The blue is a total:thumbsdow

Note, I know the wiring for the wiper motor still exits thru the original big hole.
I did this merely to see how things would work out with sorting out the positioning of the male plug.
I'll pass the wires through tomorrow & get that area finished up.

BTW, I know the scratched paint looks like crp!
I'm gona re-spray the bay (again) when i pull the motor out in the next few weeks.

Today wasn't a great day for making progress on the civic.
I detailed my daily drive so that took up most of my day-lol.

When i finally got down to working on the civic, I targetted finishing up a few small items. I changed the negative terminal clamp since I was using the bigger one originally intended for -ve terminals.
I also decided to test the coolant system since i hadn't heard the fan kick in since dropping the B16 in.
The motor reached normal operating temp & i left it running a few more minutes (even gave it a few good revs) but no fan.
I bridged the thermostat & found the fan wasn't kicking in.
So i checked fuses & found just the one under the dash burnt.
Replaced & now the fan comes on with the thermostat plug bridged.
However, the fan still doesnt automatically come on after leaving the engine running for a long while.
I'm too afraid to leave the engine running incase the heat gauge or water temp is defective & i end off blowing a head gasket :(
I'll checkout the relay tomorrow & try spend more time on it & figure it out.

Lastly, the thing that drives me totally nuts is the "key in ignition" beep/buzz. I find it very annoying to remove the key from the ignition each time i switch the car off to go do something on the motor. I googled but didnt really find anything for the civic EF.
I decided to pull off the steering column covers & check if there was any additional wires running from the ignition to anywhere else.
This is what i found:
http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g389/MyzEF/IMG_4484.jpg

I removed it:
http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g389/MyzEF/IMG_4486.jpg

This is what it looks like on the "actuator switch" side
http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g389/MyzEF/IMG_4490.jpg

Now, no more beeping when the key's in the ignition, when my seat belt isn't on, or if the doors open. .
(Now i just gotsa figure out how to get around the "depress the clutch to start" switch:D :D :D )

I'm hoping that pretty soon, this thread will start to get more exciting with the arrival of the new motor.
Apologies for my diary styled ramblings....I enjoy typing the way i speak-lol

Great work! I can't wait to see more progress!
I'm building a EF too, probably wont have the chasis for a year or so. I'm starting with motor first :) Fully Built!

Thanks for the comments Guys,
Last weekend was spent on the bodywork.
I tried to take as many pics as possible but its difficult trying to be efficient @ working & taking pics @ the same time. LOL

And lastly, a li'l rust found under the windscreen

http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g389/MyzEF/IMG_4573.jpg

With the crappy state of the right fender, I've decided to source a replacement. Don't really enjoy having that much body filler on panels.Hopefully, with a bit of luck, I'll get it in my hands this wknd
