anybody that says they couldn't make it better be in the hospital or something (otherwise you're lying and you didn't really want to vote), your employer is obligated to give you time off work to vote. (you must have 3 consecutive hours while the polling stations are open).

This is in no way meant to be a hit directed to you, but I just do not understand WHY people have never voted. I have been voting and at least watching politics before I could even legally vote.

My question is why have you not ever been interested, and I dont believe it is because it is 'interesting' now as there has always been interesting issues (i.e. the Alnoor thing)

I'd say usually people don't vote if they think no one represents their views. Last federal election is a good example of a low voter turn out due to people simply feeling like the Conservatives were bullshit, the Liberals were bullshit, the NDP is a worthless vote and the Greens, well yah the Greens. Also atm, I think the recession has radicalized populations all over the world, voter turn out has been good worldwide since people are pointing fingers.

I've loved politics too since I was a kid, I vote at every sort of election since I turned 18 and I go as far as to watch the elections and political activities in other western nations. I'd have to say by far the last UK election was one of my favorites recently.

I wish a Liberal Arts degree in Politics had any real use, I'd go to school for that.

Voting for names with no meaning has no meaning for lots of people.

This is my first year as well, and I have purpose this time.

Great post, makes sense to me. I have to say the federal elections have pissed me off but it still never crossed my mind not to vote. I actually took MORE effort to figure out who I thought was 'okay'

1st, let's qualify that statement applies to civic election only.

Let's put it this way. Before Bronco was elected, I have no interest in politics at any level. I only feel that Longstaff would have been a better choice. That part of my life is all about make money and fuck bitches (as with most 20 somethings today). After Bronco was elected, I started taken interest as my personal and professional life evolved. I was all for voting out Bronco but the closest choice was Alnoor which I hated even more.

This time is different. I need to stop Higgins. She is not fit for the job.

^^ On CFCN they said that it is up past 25% of eligible voters already. To think I am sure people are just getting off Deerfoot or the trains now, or lots of people are going after dinner.

So basically, simply not giving a damn? Makes me think of kids who don't get their driver's license before they are ~20, because they didn't "need it".

Not insulting you, but the simply not giving a damn attitude boggles my mind.

I boggles mine too. :D

Priorities changes. Let's just say for the 1st 7-8 years out of post secondary, it's all about getting established professionally and money. Very little else.

And surprisingly or, when I started to get interested align pretty well right after joining Beyond.

I always make sure I vote in municipal elections. Municipal politics has by far the biggest impact on your life compared to provincial and especially federal.

I voted at around 7pm and the voting station was packed! There were line ups which I've never seen before my voting station for any election. Hopefully that's a sign that turnout will be high (for North American elections at least).

lol.. There were places that ran out of ballots! Wonder what happens then....

CFCN just reported that some polling stations even ran out of ballots. Is incredible to see the city so engaged in this election.

Anecdotally, I live a couple blocks from a polling station and there was a constant stream of people (many more than normal) walking back and forth all day.
