Okay so ever since I bought my truck, I have thought it always thought it didnt quite look proportional. I thought it was a tire issue (see all my past threads about it). I have a super crew 6.5' box. To me it always has looked like I was a super crew 5.5' box, tried to pull a tree stump out, and stretched my truck.

I got 35's on my truck with a 3" front and 1.5" rear. It made it look tall and long. Didnt really help make it look right. I want to make it look right without a full on 6" lift. That is about my only nono.

So far have toyed with:

- 35's on 20's with fender flares.
- Box Cap (topper).
- Those metal rails on top of the box.
- 33's and lower it down to stock rear and 2" on the front.
- 20's with 35's
- 20's with 33's

Most positive thing right now I can think of is Dodge Ram Tires on a set of 20's. Lower the back down to stock and either leave the front at 3" or drop it to 2"

See photos. ANY input is appreciated. It is hard to find super crew regular box trucks.

These were taken last weekend. First is my truck, the next two are what look more proportional in my minds eye. I am starting to think I need silver 20's

Looks skinny and long. How wide are the rims/tires? Height wise it looks good and I wouldn't change the height. With wider rims/tires it would look a lot more aggressive but you'd probably have to drop done to a 33 to avoid rubbing.

I would say throw 37's on it as it is right now or put a 4" lift on it, wider tires with different backspacing and you should look good. You can also mod the inner wheels if you are rubbing a bit.

Yeah I cant figure out what it is. It just looks so long. The funny thing is that I am actually 6" SHORTER than a stock F250.

Yeah one of these:

You see what I do. I think it is a HAIR to tall but I can live with it if I get the other dimensions working. According to the guys I bought my lift from I can run 35x12.5 on +55 backspaced rims.

I am not really sure I want BIGGER tires. I did see a black version of my truck with 37's and it looked great. However he had a 6" suspension lift.

What width tire are you running right now?

I think they are 285's. Im going outside to check right now.

Yeah they are 285/75/R18 soooo ----- 34.8x11.2. However I think I have 8" rims so I would expect more of about 10.5 wide. That is calculated on 9" rims. I just cant get it, I look SO HUGE, but I am really not.

I think the reason yours looks longer is the color and the different trim. I get the same effect when you put mine in a parking lot with a Jeep with color matched trim.

Sugarphreak is right, aggressive MT's or AT's with sidebiters and wider will make it look better. You need to fill out the wheelwell.

What is a 315? 12.5? I am thinking a 12.5 x 33 would be good. One thing is I would like to try and get P tires again as they are almost 50% cheaper ($800.00 as opposed to the 1400 for my tires).

Fair enough. Also I have noticed that my color doesnt help it one bit. The black one I saw looked shorter than mine stock. I think it is the sand piece below. Should I stay with 35's though?

I would, a 35" MT should measure out to a full 35" and they just look bigger. I would go wider though.

I have a feeling you are right. I saw a guy in Banff with a Green and Sand truck JUST like mine. But he had fender flares, bigger tires (I think they were 20's) and they looked like 12.5. It sure looked balanced.

Can you get 35 x 12.5 in a P series tire? I already think the answer is no.

FYI this is the lift I have.

http://www.readylift.com/c-55-ford-f150-2004-2008-2wd-4wd-3.aspx

Max tire according to them is:

Size = 35" x 12.5" Rim size = 9" Backspacing = 5.5"

I think your truck looks great the way it is. It's a big truck, so if you want to make it look more "proportional a little more lift would be good. Explore the adjustable coilover idea if you want to avoid the ghey 6 inch loose clearance drop bracket lift. If you plan on wheeling, I would avoid 20 inch rims because that wont be enough sidewall when you air down. I wouldn't air down with 20's in the first place.

Cos
10-18-2010, 08:37 PM
Should I get at least WIDER 18's then? I am not sure I could even FIT 12.5 on my current rim.

Thanks for all the help guys, I need a good outsider to take a look at this. If I knew what was wrong I would have fixed it by now.

I did see that the tires do sit 'under' the truck tonight. I will take a photo of it tomorrow and throw it up from that angle.

My .02 - it's the two tone, paint/wrap the upper part of the flares to match the body color... All the F*50's that are 2tone like yours look kinda off; your pictures prove it... photochop it in before you spend a fortune though.

I stand by my original poking from the first "vanished" thread. If you get big tires they should be for offroading. Which generally means stock rim size and big ass rubber, this gives you the performance required for offroading.

If you're forging a pavement princess then yeah I see a reason for 20s I guess. But if that's all you want to use the truck for I'd bag a Ford Lightning or some mini truck with 2wd and drop it on some big rims. I'm not a big fan of huge rims on lifted trucks. But this is my opinion.

Gives you a good reason to ditch the truck for a Corvette though?? :dunno: And get a beater for the winter.

Brendan, I didn't read a lot of the other suggestions in this thread, but fender flares and a wide offset make any newer-bodystyle ford look fantastic and more "proportional" without the need for an insane lift.

THAT is what I had the thread about! Spacers. I was told not to. I would just throw spacers on now and leave the rest. Maybe get my tires rotated around so the white lettering is out.

Spacers and getting rims with a different offset is pretty much the exact same thing as far as stress on the axles go.

Keep the black out - white out will do the same for the stance as those 2tone flares...

Nothing wrong with spacers; especially since you're closer to grocery getter than off road mogul in that one. Yeah - they aren't great on steering/suspension, and a bad set are dangerous - but in an application like this - not so bad.

Sounds good. I think I figured out what I like about the color change. It really seems that that brown fender 'highlight' how big and where the wheels are, where as if you just change that 1 think it is amazing how much it changes it.

So for spacers, what do you look for in a good set then? Yeah I would say this is 98% DD. The 1.8% off road is mainly back country camp site style things. 0.2% is actual off road (3 trips in a year of owning it). I DO remember reading that hub centric is important and ones that replace the lugs with new lugs.

Also how much of a spacer is okay. I have a tendency to over do things. 2"?

Huh that is exactly about what I think I may do to start anyways. Way cheaper than a 3k set of rims or a 10k increase on a new vehicle. Doesnt look like they make Ford ones. I emailed them to ask. Anyone know other companies?

AndyL
10-18-2010, 10:26 PM
Depends on the ford setup - you've gotta match what's there, not sure if those wheels are hub centric or lug-centric... But whatever you've got is what you keep.

The 2tone flare highlighted the fender, and the whitewalls will highlight the size of the tire, since you're talking filling more - you don't want to highlight either. In fact you may want to consider painting the rims a darker color...

http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i277/cgyreefer/photo1.jpg

I have run the spacers on all my jeeps, beat them up and they were fine. The stress on the parts is EXACTLY the same as rims with different backspacing.

Maybe do your rims in gunmetal?

Well spacers came today. Great news is that it looks sick! Exactly what I needed.

Bad news is that they had to come off. The tires are too big and it tore off part of the trim (flare). I either need a 1.5" one which requires cutting of the lugs, new rims, or smaller tires. None are appealing to me right now. Looks like they will live in my garage until I get a bit smaller tires (currently 285/75/18 so anything is smaller LOL) and then they will go back on.

^^ yes, and it looks the same from the side. It just pushed them out 2" nothing more.

The best cure all for long box crew cab half tons. The wheels could be smaller on the 150 though. Titan have the same unproportioned look with the long box too. But seems cured when lifted.

^^ wicked thanks. That is the way I think I am going to go. I think with just an upgrade to 20's will make a huge difference.

No sweat. I love the way these long bastards look lifted with an offset wheel.

So bought some rims from Gary today. Bit wider (from 7.5" to 9") plus a -12mm offset.

Idea is to square off the wheels a bit more and stick them out a bit. That should go a long way.

Also going to change my headlights from the silvers to the black ones. Perhaps bedliner the running boards or lose them.

I will update as I get picks.

Those look wicked, except now I need to go back to the drawing board since the ones I was looking at are too similar lol.

Are you keeping the same tires or are you going to a more aggressive tread pattern?
