Anyone own or have owned a 5.9L Limited Grand Cherokee. I have been looking around for one and have been doing some research, seems they are far superior to the regular GC models....only bad part is they were apparently only available for 1 year (1998) so there is not a pile of them available, and the ones that are seem pretty rough.

Just looking for further info, stories opinions etc on this specific Jeep. Also they are supposed to be the fastest factory SUV for a few years after they were built.

Cons
-Very limited number (4500) in Canada
-Needs Premium, can be flashed but kills HP
-Burns gas
-Rear axle eats bearings
-Transfer case will be shot 99.9% of the time
-Transmission is unique to the model, costs $4.5-5K to rebuild
-Replacement parts are massive, $600 for front grille alone

Pros
-Tons of power
-Look great is in good condition
-Very unique
-Wicked interior

If you want one becuase it is rare and dont mind paying for repairs and potential break, go for it. Otherwise just get a normal GC with a 5.2, the 5.9 makes 20 HP and 45lb feet over the 5.2.

Or go with a 2002-2004 with a 4.7 HO, it will outrun the 5.9 all day and have nice interiors and twoing capacity too.

Yeah, I wouldn't buy one unless you were picking it up as a collector or something.

That old school 5.9L V8 is a major gas guzzler. The 4.7, as stated, is far more refined and plenty powerful if you are wanting a Jeep GC.
