Just wondering if Limewire works for anyone else?

Hmm it was working the other day for me. Now when I start Limewire it mentions updating it then says it cannot run with windows or something.

I think it might be down right now.

Whhhaaat the hell?
Read around and apparently it is gone, but maybe not for good.
Most likely it wont come back as a free program again tho...

Everything free on the internet is getting policed now. What the fuuuck.
:banghead:

Looks like some more free space for my hard drive now.

Now, if you're looking for legally downloadable and non-copywritten material that is available for release elsewhere for free, legally, try mp3raid. Right click, save link as, put it on your desktop or in whatever file. It even lets you listen to it while it's on thedownload.

I'm surprised people still use Limewire. Now a days you can google search a song and it'll be available on a file site.

Limewire is trash.

Just enter the artist + track name followed by "zippyshare", "rapidshare" or "filestube" into Google and you'll find a direct download link.

I havent used limewire/soulseek in years.

now a days anyway if you go to google then type in

title artist mediafire

99% of the time someone has uploaded the song on mediafire already.

Frostwire still uses gnutella network, and is from the creators of Limewire- it's still useful for certain things.

Usenet and torrents cover 99% of my needs.

People still use limewire? I thought that was dead in 2004.

Learn how to use a bittorrent client.

No kidding. At first when I saw this thread title, I thought it was going to be one of those "ancient bump" threads.

Bitlord + isohunt.com

Limewire was BAD with spam 5 years ago when I stopped using it, I can't even imagine what it'd be like now.

i personally don't even use torrents for music unless its some massive 700mb file for some reason, zippyshare/megaupload/rapidshare/2shared etc etc, have the song/album in less than 2-3 clicks/10 mins or so depending on filesize

That sucks for me. I'll try the sites you recommended.

I keep hearing that people have had spam problems with Limewire but I've been using it for years with no problems whatsoever.

X3. Torrents are the only way to go now. D/l'ing individual files=waste of time. Downloading the entire album through torrent takes about 90 seconds. Delete any songs you don't want later. No spam, no spyware, no muss no fuss.

They lost their RIAA court battle:

You can also still get the album torrent, and "uncheck" any songs you don't want so they don't download. Still better than the Limewire/Shareza stuff IMO.

Limewire was always a last resort for rare stuff, but ripping audio from YouTube vids has filled that gap for me, way easier to find stuff and no virus risk there.

I use http://www.downloads.nl for single file songs. Switch to English then click on Music.

2shared.com or Torrents for full albums.

eMule was always my go-to for extremely hard to find stuff. Not sure if it's still around or not. DL's were often slow, but reliable.

Yeah i used to be all in that technique of music grabbing and still sometimes if i can't find a song from any of my resources but think about that form of dloading, i guess if you dont care about music quality, quote from an interview with Deadmau5 regarding the youtube stuff:

http://www.zeropaid.com/news/86676/has-the-transcoding-problem-worsened-thanks-to-youtube/

“Production / Final Master

degraded to 24 bits for live use

degraded to 16 bits for commerical release / distribution

degraded to 16 bits (less accurately) when recorded off a live feed from mixer via DAC / ADC

degraded to 128kbps / 320kbps when published for streaming media outlets

degraded to 128kbps / 320kbps when ripped from streaming media outlet

degraded to 64kbps / 128kbps
=
a very crappy 6th generation copy that magically gets called “HIGH QUALITY VERSION!!!111ONE!!” on youtube…. you figure it out.”

then using say video2mp3.net you'd be a 7th generation copy of pure degradation.

i still stand by zippyshare/megaupload/rapidshare and blogspots type places for quick decent quality songs

single songs: grooveshark
If you know how to use a computer you can dload the songs to your HDD no sweat.

soulseek is a separate network
limewire uses gnutella & bittorrent protocol..
So I don't understand why you'd say "soulseek/limewire".. they're not the same thing.

waffles.fm/what.cd are invite only trackers but worth the effort to get on them especially if you care about the quality of your mp3s.

soulseek still has its place for finding extremely rare stuff. I've had pretty good success with it.

I use iTunes/Beatport. Paying for music is the way for me :) Much more convenient too

that's the thing.. I don't use any p2p other than bittorrent now a days hence why i put limewire and soulseek.
I use torrent on rtt or demonoid for rare files or new releases.
720p/1080p it's all megaupload/hotfile with jdownloader for me now.

Guess I misunderstood you.. the way you put it I thought that you thought limewire and soulseek was one in the same..

I use what, torrentleech, ftn and hdbits

I find almost everything between those sites and if not I just use my friends eznews account..

Yup, except I always forget to uncheck the rest end up downloading the entire album anyways :nut:

I bought a lifetime membership unlimited downloads about 7 years ago from MP3 Rocket for about 30 bucks, paid for itself in the first week and it's legal.
