Central Vacuums

Just doing some research on Central Vacuum systems and after a bunch of reading I've decided to go with a Duovac system.

Anyone have one of these in their house? Do you like it? Any complaints?

What did you end up finding out about all the systems. why is this better the others? Looking at a system now as well.

Apparently this place in Calgary has a system for $300 off right now, don't have any details but will have to take a look to see what all it includes. I was just thinking of the system from Home depot, they all do the same thing no?

I'm going to install my central vac hopefull this weekend. Anyone have extra piping they'd sell to me for cheap?

I haven't checked out prices...so I"m not sure how expensive it is.

Mine was roughed in to my house, so I think all I'll need to do is hang the vac and connect the piping from where it comes through the sub floor into the basement. And then connect the wiring too.

Anyone know if I'll have to install any new connectors to the outlets throughout the house?

I would suggest running your vacuum to your garage and not your basement. Unless of course you have a detached garage.

Pipe is pretty cheap, like 6 bucks per 10 foot section, the connectors are cheap too. I suggest you buy a bunch of different varieties and return what you don't use, since it will save you a ton of time.

If you already have central vac outlets then you don't need to change those, they are universal. All the outlets will have low voltage cabeling prewired to them, so in the basement you should have the cables hanging down somewhere where you see the pipes.

The cable you use can can be just about anything, I had a cable left over from my garade door opener control panel, so I used that, since it is just a low voltage wire to close the loop.

I also got a DIY duovac system from dyanmic vac off southland drive a few years ago. Awesome system, easy to install, the owner was great to deal with too! Highly recommended!

I'm running Vacuflo but I think that any of the big hitters would be good DuoVac I've heard is great.

As long as you vent outside the filteration system really doesn't matter, because anything that makes it through the filter just goes outside. Nothing that goes in the hose can come back into the house.

Only concern with the filtation system is that, if you have a permanent filter like many of the brands have, it will lose suction. For me it would be near impossible to vent outside, so I just have it in my utility room.
