Well the reason I bid 10,5 was cause it looks almost mint...Kidding...well it looks to be in great condition, but yeah 10,5 USD...WOWSAHS:eek:

simple: supply versus demand.

I've always been saying that prices like these change because of the simple idea of supply versus demand.

86s are getting rarer and rarer these days (ppl keep drifting them into mountains... plus most are rusting to pieces), PLUS with the hightened publicity of things such as Initial D and drift events and because of promotion from such infamous magazines such as Super Street, the market creates an artificial rise in demand for these cars.

This is also evident in other places too. For those of you who know about SR20's, they used to run for ~$1200-1500 CDN around 4 years ago; now they run for a minimum $2000 CDN (for a "decent" one)...
SR20s are also getting more rare, but also because of the artificially created demand, we see that people can reap profits from selling these engines.

Unlike your own car Ryan, the MR2 has a good resale value because of it's rarity in the first place and an almost exclusiveness to it - but things such as the rise of the 86 and the SR20 powerplants in North America are just stimulated by market demand created by people in the industry.

id much rather buy a rusted corolla and repair the rust...costs less and u will get a better end result.

That seller sure got lucky. He only wanted 1600 for it and got over 10000...

Im sure you mean INSANE... :D

Normally wouldn't comment but you said it 3 times...

10000 US, thats around 13000 CDN. You could get a car that's newer than an 86 for that money. Im sure Redlyne's project didn't even cost that in total (and it looks new).

Haha I know..not even a fifth of that..and it would run circles around that thing..an ae86 in stock form is not a marvelous thing

Its sad, apparently they also go for this much in Japan, I have heard that Nissan S13;s are cheaper in Japan than AE86's. I could however be wrong though.

All I can say, is whoever bid 10,000 for that car is just nuts!. They arent in that high of demand. Open up an autotrader or something like that, and there are always a few of them, especially in the states.. but they usually go for around $4500, and that is for a modded one.:drama:

Yah the 86 goes for huge money in japan as well basically because most of them are long gone. In some cases you can pick up an r32 skyline for the same price as the trueno apex

I won't believe that .... It is a Joke ! when I had my AE86, well..it was 10 yr ago, and I paid $4500 for it, and mine "was" much nicer and cleaner than this one, and all I paid was $4500 ! for a 6 yrs old car, and 105,000 km on it !

Why a car worth 4 times more after 10 years ??

yeeeeeeeeeeeesh, i already said it! "supply vs. demand" :burnout:

lol.

seriously it's just b/c Super Street and Initial D helped boost the popularity of it already; plus a lot of people are just forcing the prices of these things to go higher - it's the novelty effect

yeah thats absurd that it could go for that much. I remember no more than a year ago these could be had for $2000 MAX

i think that car was in really good shape for the year (if it was in calgary) but i agree it is not worth nearly that. I would say in usd 1 tenth of that price would be good.:D

ya, 1 dude ran the price up. Maybe they are laundering money??? the mafia cashes in on the Initial D craze!!! haha

A friend of mine just bought another ae86 (sr5) recently for $100..
oh and $40 towing to his house. People need to be less impulsive when buying these cars.. it only increases both price and rarity of the car. I feel bad for anyone who owns one wants to find parts without breaking the bank buying them new.

I think he was refering to the other SR5 series trucks..
Sr5 was the base model AE86 in the US..From what I've been told, the Corrolla SR5 only differs in engine, tranny, rims and bumpers from the Corrola GTS. Suspension components are the same as is the frame rigidity.. even if its got an carburated 4AC under the hood...anyhow correct me if I am wrong about that stuff I'm not a toyota freak..

My point being ppl pay to much for the cars and then everyone starts thinking they are worth crazy cash, when really they are not.

4ag
differential with lower final drive
painted bumpers and side moldings
rear disc brakes
better interior trim
steering ratio (i think)
different specs on suspension all around
rear swaybar and a thicker front swaybar (iirc, and i never do!)

Anyone happen to see the names of the bidders?... taksae86? Hachi8roku6? My opinion is that it was some initial D freaks with waaay more money than brains.
