I upgraded from CS2 to CS5 last night. Not a big difference since I don't know how to use either. But the Photomerge works a lot better so I reworked some tilt/shift panos:

Have to admit Cake Smashes are a lot of fun! This was my first attempt doing a cake smash using no lightning at all. I think I could do these all day long and never get sick of it. The kids going haywire once all the sugar hits them.

Quazi, the baby's skin looks sort of mottled? Is that a processing thing?

Went out and shot some stuff at lunch today:

took a 30 second stab at one of those shots quazi, hope that's ok, if not, lemme know and I'll kill it.

went up 1/3 stop exposure, did some softening of the skin, touched up the eyes, and the weird dark spot just over his right knee.

word. You defiantly cleaned it up the look, I think it's the just 'realness' of the original that does it for me. If that's how the kid looks, then that's how I wanna see the kid.

take away opinion. Editing, you did fine.

Oddly it's not uncommon for baby skin. I find it happens when they get cold or too hot, either way its something that needs to be worked with. The photos I posted were basically untouched for the most part. The one below is one of the more finished versions. I have 3 more cake smash sessions this week. Time to pull out the pink back drop!!

Gotcha. I haven't noticed any sensor dust but thought there may have been a function that recognized it for you.

The 5D MKII's auto-clean seems to work well.

Today's auto sensor cleaning works very well in conjunction with care while changing lenses IMO. I haven't had to physically clean my sensor in more than 3 years (so, never).

What do you use for merging? I assume you just had one pic to expose the sky, and one for the foreground?

I'm always trying to find ways to make HDRs look more natural. I find that difficult using Photomatix.

The print screen resolution is way worse than if someone can download an original file, or even a huge version of a file, and print it on photo paper on a proper printer. It's just one level of security. Also large image files are going to be bigger than your monitor's resolution, so you would have to print several screens.

If you wanted to make a little 4X6 of someone's photo including water mark by printing the screen on photo paper, yeah you could probably get an average print out of it.

Go4Long
11-10-2010, 02:54 PM
^that
I'm fully aware there's plenty of ways around it...but realistically a screen capture is only going to get you maybe 4 x 6" at 72 ppi, which is kind of a whatever in my books. I just try to protect my images as best as I can, and if people want to work around that and get whatever they can get for free, then that's their choice. I've seen people ON MY FRIENDS LIST on facebook with watermarked versions of my images as their profile pic, and I'm not talking the corner watermark like I put on the ones that I'm sharing, I'm talking about the big one right across the middle like I use on my actual site.

Who prints 4x6's anymore?

I don't get the no-download thing either. Just post a max size of 800x600 with a watermark and call it good. Especially if you're trying to promote yourself comercially. People are more likely to download it (for enjoyment purposes) and look at it again, and be reminded about your website/work.

Only the odd P&S user I would imagine, I am not disagreeing with you :) .

I personally don't watermark my images or limit file size to super small. I just don't care, at least at the point I'm at. Lots of people on this forum have asked me for originals of various pics for backgrounds or whatever and I have no problem sending them if they aren't going to use them for any commercial purpose.

Did some climbing at the back of the lake there, so gorgeous from up on the wall! Crazy how much snow is out there already.

did you use a polarizer in those?

Go4Long
11-12-2010, 01:32 PM
no. no polarizer in either. the one of the chateau I used the 18-35 and two different cokin filters for a total of 4 stops(one graduated)...the second one has no filters, it's an HDR...I assumed it was me you were asking...sorry if that's incorrect.

I also always list the basics of what I did to create it on my flickr...

Mountain biking out past Bragg, shot with a Olympus Tough 6020. Not my favourite camera to use (slow, blue hued screen, but tough). Second shot is the start of the ride, river wasn't bad once my legs went numb. lol

putting the parts of her skin that are the furthest apart in color that close together just highlights the issue. and the light fall off on her arms makes it look even worse.

it's december., all your buildings are leaning left and you may not want to eat that snow.
