my vote would be an Audi RS4

tons of power, Recaro Seats, Brembo Brakes, 19's and looks dam sexy with a really nice, comfortable interior.

Not much room in the back seats though. Not the most practical 4 door sedan.

I'm thinking the Audi S6 would make more sense.

I agree with you on the interior of the RS4 being a bit too small as well, maybe an RS6? I saw one the other day and it looks pretty unimpressive, but inside and power wise that car is very good as well.

Depends what you're looking for, space requirements, budget, etc

Off the top of my head -

Small - Audi RS4 or '10 S4 if you want more warranty

Mid-size "regular" - BMW 535Xi

Mid-size "upper end" - Audi S6

Large-size "used upper-end" - MB S550 4-Matic or Audi S8

Large-size "newer upper-end" - 2010 BMW 750 (new '10s can be had ~$30k off MSRP). Panameras, with the right options and wheels can look good and there are great deals on the lightly used ones...

S6 is a BEAUTIFUL machine. I've got an old allroad, that is A6 platform, with the 2.7twin turbo. I love it, even with it's mechanical flaws (knocks on wood, nothings broke for awhile).

Brand new for a family, I'd definitely look at one. I love the old RS6's too (new ones not available in N.A.), and would love to get my hands on one, but they have even more problems than my allroad, lol.

Volvo S60 Turbo. Because I am a fanboy.

Chrysler 300C AWD. Because of the V8.

MB S-550 4-Matic. Pure sex.

BMW 5 Series. V8 TT? 500hp? win.

BMW 7 Series. One of James Bonds favorite cars.

Does it need to be AWD???:

Aston Martin Rapide - My favorite

Cadillac CTS-V - Really good bang for the buck

MB AMG models!

BMW M5

In that case, Panamara Turbo. Contemporary, ridiculously fast, all the toys, quite practical, prestigious, etc...

But I don't think that really helps you, so without more specifics, this is pointless.

I like the subaru wrx sti. Easy to get some power and cheap enough to use as a daily driver. You can use it all winter long and bash around in the snow.

I'll have one for my winter beater within the next few years

That's why in my first post, I said "with the right options"...

Most Panameras look gross, I'll agree. But a 4S or Turbo, with the air suspension option and 20" wheels (and in a dark exterior colour), they can look quite good. Plus, you don't know how ugly the rear end is from the driver's seat ;)

Not unless your planning on becoming a European citizen, then coming back to Canada for work.

I'm assuming you're talking about Horchaus's attempt at importing them. It failed unfortunately.

http://www.horchaus.com/Car_imports.html

With regards to our project of bringing European models to Canada, we have to admit that we did not succeed.

We did not manage to work our way through the regulatory commissions to ensure that the cars indeed meet all North American regulations.

We had a strategy that we thought was appealing in importing pre-owned vehicles to a very competitive price but we could not finalize the legalization of these vehicles here without the appropriate collaborators.

We are very disapointed and humbly apologize for false hopes that the leak to the internet might have caused.

As a key player in Canada’s tuning and performance industry, we maintain our strong commitment to bringing you sophisticated, high-performance German engineering and personalized services to help you create the most memorable driving experience time and time again.

My ride.

More leg room than RS4, just as fast. Torque vector AWD and 1/4 mile in high 12s and high 11s with ECU tune. Good on gas.

Typical Audi quality interior and relatively cheap, $55K get you one with no options.

Downside? No V8 and you start to see a lot on the road. S4 is the new 335i.

flappy paddle. Don't want to deal the manual with traffic into downtown everyday. Only manual I'll get would be a weekend car.

Stasis finally released ECU tune. Similar to APR, adds about 40-50HP and about 30lb/ft. Stasis claims 410HP but a lot of those horses are unclaimed by Audi. The 333HP Audi claim is actually WHP, not crank.

quite understand that - had to do a couple (rare) downtown runs at rush hour in a manual recently, and got tired of that (so did my left foot) REALLY fast - couldn't imagine doing that every day again!

A friend has a flappy paddle 2011 S4 (he special ordered it - two tone interior, the works - lucky bugger) Listening to it drive away though, is really weird. When he shifts, it makes this weird little, almost 'fart' like noise and as for the engine; although I love the look and the interior, the noise it "doesn't" make is a killer for me. I know it's just as powerful and is more economical as it's predecessor, but it seems to have lost the whole point of the "S" badge since they took away the V8 (can't speak from a driving perspective as I haven't had the pleasure yet). Still a great car though - no doubt about that!

My "ideal" would be a 2011 body with the '08 lump and standard box in it and the only way I can have that, is to get an S5, which I don't really want, because I prefer four doors over two.

Can't decide whether to chip mine or not - it's thirsty enough as it is...

No farting noise if you stay with 6sp, it's a by product of the S-tronic tranny.

Yeah, there are tons of exhausts mod out to trying to deal with the lack of sound issue. But you just can't beat the sound of a V8.

I'm sure Audi will only reserve the V8 for RS4/5 in the future. S5 vert is already moved on to 3.0T. Only S5 coupe still have the 4.2L.

Yeah this thread is so generic.. What price range? New? Used? Luxury? All out performance? G37x hasn't been mentioned yet.

Love the look of the RS4 but I'd say the B8 S4 gets my vote, just for sheer fact of increased rear leg room alone, very good looking sedan, and you can always pump up the HP to near RS4 levels fairly easily...

Just wish that Audi will release a B8 RS4 in the next year or 2.

OP - Lincoln MKS (not sure if that's the Ford equivalent others are on about). Has great space as far as I remember. Damned nice car - drove one to Vancouver and back with a teen in the back. I find my S to be bad enough and the RS is worse. It seems I go into the City a couple times and half a tank is gone.

i get about 450 to the light comes on when your not raggin on it and then it takes about 55 litres to fill it back up! thats not terrible for a v8 powering 4 fat tires

Hmmm - you drive like a granny?..lol I get about the same from my S. I also have an A4 for a daily and when that gets 700km per tank, yes - the S seems thirsty by comparison. Granted, 22mpg isn't "bad" for a V8 with over 300 horses ;)

The RS4 is better on gas than an S4.

The downside is after 4 years so much carbon has built up on the heads that its just as slow as an S4

That must have been one of those rare 5-seat CGTs ;) Plus, in the post you quoted, 89Coupe was referring to the RS4...

(All CGTs are 2+2s... I guess you could fit 3 in the back if you wanna get cozy)

Edit - I can't believe we're all taking this seriously and actually offering suggestions.

Good question.... The SRT-8's come with manuals, but I think all the AWD are auto.

It's a kick ass car, love that tranny... slap the shifter to the left, and bam! I've yet to lose a race, and my damn car only runs low 14's.... Still great for one of the only real fullsize cars on the market.

Cadi ATS is a damn good start.
The Regal GNX should be epic though.

Got to page 5 before I realized it was an old thread. Was wondering why someone recommended a 2010 S4

Dodge Charger R/T is available in AWD. I think it's a great looking car. 375 HP & 395 lbs / ft of torque is more than enough jam to get you into trouble.
