There's a jacked up F350 by my work at the airport, obviously some rigger who's up north for awhile. His wheels disappeared recently too, at least 3 of the discs are up in the air, but one isn't and it's leaning pretty heavy on it too. Sucks to be him when he gets back from where-ever.

I don't understand why people with expensive wheels, don't have wheel locks all around. How much is a set, $50? So having all your lugnuts as tuners would cost $250 VS having $4000 in rims/rubber taken off your ride, and then the damage, and inconvenience?

I know a pro will still get all the tuner lugs off, but then again, maybe they won't think it's worth their time if they see it.

Not surprising. I could get 4 wheels off a car in a few minutes without even using a jack.
You'll see them for sale somewhere though, quick sales are sloppy.

Are lock nut sockets really that hard to come by?

They are standard issue I think on escalades?? Mine came with them

Iceman_19

All you need to do is jam a socket over the locking lug nut and voila, you have a lock nut removal tool. Its not a big secret, especially to people that steal wheels.

Couldn't you just walk into a GM dealer and say "Hey, the shop lost the lock nut for my Escalade. Can I buy a new one?".

Not that easy pretty sure you need to have proof of ownership and also there is more than just one type of locking lug.

A car alarm would stop these idiots a bit, lug nuts will slow them down and that is all they are good for. Maybe better lighting on the garage area and cameras. I wish someone would set up a bomb vehicle, if anyone tries anything ugly the thing blows. Removes some iffy DNA from being passed onward, so a one stone, two birds scene. Thieves and vandals deserve all the wrath they have coming.

The best you can do is slow these guys down, they will seek out an easier hit. The nature of the beast, always an easier hit down the street.

11K to replace stock 22s? That can't be right...

When I bought mine, I got the 22's stock option, I think they were maybe 4K? Maybe 3K?

That REALLY sucks though. I always park mine in the garage, I have an ESV and it's such a tight fight my back bumper goes over 2 of the steps, had to remove the hand railing, thankfully it fits though!

I've been seeing more and more pics of this happening lately.

GM has an add-on for the stock alarm that has a level sensor. If someone moves, or jacks up the vehicle it'll sound the alarm. I could be wrong but I think it's only $150 bucks installed?

Do you know if they usually make more than one type for the same vehicle?

When I lost the key for my Dodge's nut the dealer told me there were 25+ types.

When you get a set they usually give you a serial number that will identify the 'key' so that you can order the correct replacement.

Yes there are way more than just one pattern. If you do honestly loose your own locking key and you can prove it's your vehicle the dealership will take off your locking lugs with a master set that typically only the foreman at the shop has access to and then you will have to buy a new set of locking lugs.

I think the sensor only works when the car is at a significant incline( so something like it being towed). By the looks of it in this situation it wouldnt have helped either. As they put blocks down and the car stayed "even"

Not sure how they managed to carry the rims, as id assume one would well weigh over 65lbs with a inflated tire.

OP, i suggest u keep an eye on kijiji an stuff, as the rims could only be used on another escalade, cant see a guy with a ford riding on cadillac rims lol

Probably a dealer quote on wheels + tires + sensors. Why not, they want you to claim from insurance anyway.

I overheard a Porsche owner said Porsche charges $1000 for a set of 4 TPMS sensors!

Wow, I just checked out the "Parts" section on a dealer's site... Couldn't find the stock 22s, but HOLY SHIT they charge alot for rims...

I need new rubber for my 22s soon. and WOW, this is like 2 times higher than Costco's price for new rubber.

meh, pay the deductible and move on, I like it when thieves make it worth while for the claim rather then make the decision hard.

The chrome on the stock wheels was peeling anyways... so he is happy to get a brand new set for $500 deductible.
And the car wasn't on a major road.... so someone was driving around and spotted it, then came for a visit later!

Yea, at first I was thinking that can't be the right price for the rims, but then I thought about how my friend was telling me ??hyatt?? mercedes charged him $4k for tires for his 06/07 cls, lol.

To the OP,

Im sorry about your loss. but get your dad to call ICBC to get them to cover it. This would be under comprehensive claims.

if they really want your wheels, locking nuts aren't gonna stop them.

cherpintow
11-09-2010, 01:12 PM
They should setup bait cars in a similar fashion, but with the hopes of luring theives to steal the wheels.

We tend to look at these situations and blame ourselves because we didn't do enough to prevent the theft from occurring. We should be putting our focus on making it extremely unattractive for any theif to even consider this type of crime, and making the punishments very harsh.

Buy and Old beater truck with steels, hosting a AM radio ... I parked mine unlocked at the zoo for years. No one even touched that rust bucket.

Sercurity keep telling - me LOCK it or lose it ... I said no worries, I just park it beside a brand new Chevy, only a dummy would mess with my a piece of shit

Pffffff..... I just carry these around in the back and put them on everytime I stop, then activate the level sensor, then put on my club, then wrap it in barbed wire. Twice. I mean, if you really thought ahead, anything less is just irresponsible.
