Wife drives 4-cyl car mentioned above with 105K on it. I just had the cooling system flushed and now looks like I need a water pump. Should I arbitrarily put in a timing chain while I'm in there if the oil was changed every 3,000? I know people are freaked out about breaking timing belts, but do the chains last longer? Seems like you'd get some noise as a forwarning. Is there a recommended change interval for timing chains like there is with timing belts?
Any one with 2.4 chevy experience please help!! I'll be taking this one on myself with my trusty Haynes manual.

if youre doing the water pump, you might as well do the chain. But also do the guides for the chain and tensioner.

Go to bcjbody.org, click on forums, register, and ask there. Theres a couple of guys that know the motor really well.
