If he's so smart, he'd be better off patenting all his ideas.

Patenting things costs a lot of money and takes some time and effort, this way he can just make $$$ right now, if anyones that dumb.

you also can't patent "ideas" either.
Has to be an actual product-related-type thing or at the very least a method to do something in order to be patented.
He can only claim a copyright if he has written down his idea but the copyright only applies to the work in and of itself - the substance behind the idea isn't copyrighted. IE. he can copyright a SPECIFIC screenplay that is about space aliens invading earth, but he can't copyright the idea about space aliens invading earth since it's a free-for-all thing that many people can think up of.
