Looking for advice on a christmas gift for my wife. She has a 50d canon with 5 different lenses and shoots only kids, babies, and family portraits, mostly just for friends and family but she's starting to get lots of referrals and even has a wedding shoot lined up.

I want to get her a new editing program, the one she has was from ebay and she says its un professional and sucks. I want it to be a total suprise so i'm not asking her which is best. what do you guys suggest? Would like to keep the buget around $1000 or less.

Thanks all!:)

Lightroom is more than enough for most people. $300 pr $240 from the US.

I really like using lightroom to. I say lightroom 3, but if you can get your hands on lightroom 2 at a cheaper price its not bad either. I've never used the original but yeah. Have fun with it!

Only $100 to upgrade from 2 to 3 as well. And you don't have to install 2 first, you just enter both serials into the registration screen on LR3.

As mentioned, you can get Lightroom for a lot less than $1000. Maybe additional lights/flashes etc could be bundled?

As mentioned, Lightroom is not too expensive. You can throw in some flashes, stands, maybe potable backdrops.

A wonderful trip somewhere warm so she can snap some shots somewhere beautiful ;)

Does she have a battery grip? the extra battery life will help when doing long shoots like a wedding, etc.

Yes, definitely Lightroom. I'm still on version 2; it's great and I don't see any need to upgrade to 3.

But even if you get the current version, it's not that expensive. Go for it.

(Hopefully she shoots RAW, you need to do that to get the most out of Lightroom)
