Hey all, anyone know of any reputable vet clinics around Calgary? I'm looking to get a puppy neutered and possibly get his nares corrected. its a pug.

Obviously price is a factor but i'm more interested in how competent the doctor is. There's a clinic in Trans Canada mall close to where I live, anyone take their doggies there?

Are you only interested in clinics in your area? I know the Shawnessy Pet Hospital is really good - highly recommend it.

Not necessarily, i don't mind travelling a bit further if it means better treatment. but i guess to add to my question - is there a good emergency care clinic in the NE i can get to quickly as well? shawnessy is 24 hrs but it will take too long to get to in an emergency. i wouldn't mind it for regular check-ups though

Best one out of the 4 I've used in the past. Also open 24 hours for emergencies.

Great clinic.

We used to take our dogs to the one just off memorial drive and kensington road. Can't remember the name. We always had great service and our dogs were always well cared for.

another +1 for shawnessy - great staff there, really doesnt feel like they're just looking to make $$$

also, i got my puppy spayed at the vet clinic in okotoks, it was about 1/2 -1/3 the price of anywhere in calgary, and it went great, felt very comfortable with them and its only a few minutes out of the city to boot

I paid $400 at bowmont, and then the next day my buddy lost his pitbull and found it at the pound. They offered him:

$160 for the dog back

OR

$155 for a neutering, microchip, shots, tags.

Get your friend to drop your dog off at the pound pretending he found it wandering around, and then you cruise in the next day and claim it, save hundreds, win.

Can't really say which is best in case of emergency, I would just go to the closest one.

Big Rock animal clinic in Okotoks. Seriously, as most places around here are absurdly over priced scam artists.

My cat had a urinary tract infection. This local place in my neighboorhood wanted $400 just to do a proper assessment. Treatment was $800.

Big Rock knew what the problem was right away, and gave me some medication for my cat. Total cost? $50.

Just make sure you find one you like, you pay them waaay too much to not be happy with their services.

My mom is out in Victoria but she had one dog in intensive care after a dog fight and was paying a lot of money for it and her spouse when to check on the dog and she had peed/pooped in her kennel--it was supposed to be 24/7 monitoring, obviously the dog was not being watched as closely as they said. Don't be afraid to stop in and ask to see your pet if they are staying the night etc...

I got my Frenchie done at the Trans Canada Vet and they did a good job my little guy.

The best doctor at that location is Alexandra, she's only there every Thursdays. She actually care about animals and doesn't only treat it as a job like all the other Docs there.

The clinic in Temple (NE) is not to bad either, I went there when I first got him.
