OK, Long story short

Parent bought a house back in Oct 2009
They moved in on Nov 20th 2009

Enmax wants us to pay $6**.** for the billing period between May 2009 and Sept 2009 plus late charges which belong to totally different account.
My parents set up a new account for the property with Enmax on Oct 2009 and never missed payment of our portion (2**.**)until now(Nov 2010).
ENMAX claims that property title was transfered to my parent on May 2009 therefore they are responsible.
All of neccesary documents (tranfer property title on Oct 2009 by our lawyer & Realtor) had been faxed to ENMAX representitive to prove that they moved in on Nov 2009.

Last month they received the final notice and they will cut all electricity to the house if my parents refuse to pay. Basically threatening them to pay for it.

What can my parents do about this situation? Get a Lawyer?

Enmax != Leg to stand on.

Maybe go down with the relevant paperwork and see them in person to work this out. That or actually call them and talk to them about it on the phone. Escalate to a manager. This type of thing is easy to deal with, if you actually talk to Enmax.

When you faxed the transfer title over, did the rep even say they recieved it?Or did you guys fax it and then no follow-up?

As codetrap stated, go down in person, have the documentation and once its seen in person I don't see there will be a problem after that.

Check out the Alberta Utilities Consumer Advocate:

I used them once to fight a billing problem with Enmax, they were great to work with and won my case.
