The canadian side is pretty straightforward for a car over 15 years old. It's about the same as buying a watch and bringing it home. Pay your taxes and you should be free to go. Since you won't be going through RIV there are no federal inspections to undergo. Depending upon the province you reside there may be an out of province safety inspection involved.

You will have to check on the rules for exporting a car from the country you are buying it from. If from the US for example you will need a copy of the title sent to the US border crossing at least 72 hours before the car arrives. I don't know what the rules are for other countries.
