So Calgary's got another R&B, Hip-Hop Station, called the Vibe at 98.5FM which was launched today. So far I think it blows 96.9 away? Less repetition and more Old School

What do you guys think?

I hope there are more swears. That's how I can really tell if rap is good. Oh, lot's of violence too.

j/k. I'm sure anything is better then 96.9.

I havent heard it but i thought it was weird listening to a radio station where every song was censored in some way or another. Although i did hear rappers delight around 12!

Yeah, they launched it at like 6:30pm today....
The thing is, it sounds good now cause they don't have real DJs yet and they can play a mix of everything to get everyone excited. However, when things become stable, it'll just be another 96.9 Clone. Shit even now, 96.9 still plays the same old CD with the same 5 Hip Hop stars (Ja Rule, Ashanti, Nelly, etc) !!! :nut:

It was kinda cool at first, but now I'm just getting a bit tired of the same old Hip Hop. It's back to the *Devil's Music" at C-Jay 92.

Vibes, way better they already have dj's as of late last night and i haven't heard the same song twice yet. Plus they play way more old school songs. I think they will last and Kiss won't.

I agree. I was in the car for only a short period and of the 4 songs they played, 3 of them I never even heard on Kiss. Kiss is going to need some more variety if they're going to survive. And since when Justin Timberlake become classified as R&B?

Another R & B station woohoo that plays old skool too :woot: :woot: Since I moved here in 1989, that has always been one of Calgary's downfalls-that they DIDN't have even one of these stations. Now we have two

i doubt that will happen....
98.5 is affiliated with PJ, who owns BRIX the clothing store on 17th as well as beatmatrix. PJ knows his music and whenever you go to BRIX sometimes they have live mixes and stuff, with awesome music always...so i think 98.5 will last, whereas KISS won;t.

In fact i went to Brix two days ago and the topic came up and he was assuring us that there will be no repetitiveness on VIBE

i think vibe is great. driving home from school today i was listening to their rush hour show and it's awesome. they have dk kav mixing the songs live, and it's just excellent.

it's kinda odd though because drew atlas is a dj at vibe, and dj kav mixes for the rush hour show, and they belong to 2 competing sound crews, and when i worked for qwest promos in high school they were telling us to spread word about vibe.

The best r&b show is sundays on CJSW. I think drew atlas hosts it, but they play good music.

This city need a new breed to the radio species. I give 2  to both stations for now. Just bounce between them both and you have a good mix.

but really the VIBE is a million times better.
they play less "pop-rap" and stick to hip hop roots.
They also keep you informed of current events in the hip-hop industry.

just my $0.02

i agree

but about drew atlas........when i think of him i think of pop-rap

he acts like he is down with original hip hop and such, but i went to the de la soul concert and when he was the host......the way he tried to show off the fact that he listened to de la soul when he was young seemed soooo fake

i may be wrong, but the me drew atlas is all about clubs, club music and beatmatrix, not the real hip hop
