I was wondering that too, how the fuck do you get hit by a slow moving grader? Drunk off your ass and passed out in the gutter?

Not sure about this particular incident , but I can tell you first hand that people have gotten way more educated over the last 40 years , but have lost most or all common sense .

Either the operator didn't see her , or she walked across when she shouldn't have . Either way , most people would have just let the grader go by , but apparently not this lady . She's lucky she just got a broken leg .

Huge graders with flashing lights are hard to see against the white winter snow.

Wouldn't surprise me if he ran a red. I've nearly been T-Boned twice this winter trying to turn left on a green by city vehicles. I guess they just want to keep their speed up.

My money's on the woman was jaywalking, and assumed an air of arrogance that because she is a pedestrian in the province of Alberta, that everyone MUST stop, and the traffic seas WILL part, so she can get to the other side.

No, now graders will have to have yellow strobes on the edge of the blade, at the highest/widest points in each dimension, and a pilot truck at each end with a 10'x8' LED sign stating "CAUTION GRADER" at the front and "GRADER AHEAD" behind. The "backup" alarm will also have to sound whenever the motor is running regardless of its direction of travel or speed. Media will begin reporting on where graders will be operating each day, and 30 to 90 second PSAs will be run on TV, put in your water bill, and posted on buses and billboards.

And idiots will still step into their path.
