my stepdads neighbor has a '98 r1, that my friend is looking at. im not sure how many kilometers the thing has, it has an arrow system on it( slip on )

and the guy wants to let it go for 6 grand. seems kinda rediculous to me.
even with extremely low kilometers do you think its worth that much?
nice bike, runs great, he fired it up, idles fine. tail section is falling off, but has another, two actually i think.

i just dont know! feel free to tell me otherwise if im being faggy.
fire away!

That's the classic iconic '98 r1 that blew everybody away when it first came out. but even half of what he's asking is fair, and it's winter, so in short I'd print out bunch of the kijiji ads listed above, and use that as a bargaining tool. Obviously he didn't do any research when figuring out a price for it

Edit: wow, WTF is the point of owning and insuring a bike, and holding onto it for four years if your only going to put 2000kms on it in that time? On my '07 I have 28k, and it feels like I barely ride it, 14k of that was the first summer I owned it starting in June

^haha

I wouldn't pay over 4 for that, the bike is ages old. I had an '01 R1 and it was great, but I won't own a carb'd sportbike again, throttle response just doesn't compare.

One thing your buddy should be wary of is that second gear on these bikes WILL fail at some point, and its an expensive fix. My R1 had 44K on it when I sold it, and second gear was okay, but I think the bike had been babied by the previous owner. If he's planning on riding the bike near its potential, I would go for something less prone to failure.

It seems some people think their bikes are goooooold!

You think 98 isn't that old when you say 98, but when you say 12 years old. Dang.

i think he's better off not buying it. shit, after browsing kijiji and seeing alot newer go for cheaper, heck whats the point?

thanks for the info, ya darlin's.

Anyways, offer $2500 tops, if it's mint: $2900. It's a carb'd 1998 with 115hp. For some reason people in Calgary think their bikes are worth a goldmine. They're not.

In the spring he MIGHT get $3500 for it. At this time of year, $2500 tops.

All injected 600's are 130+ haha! (btw look at the tech increase over 10 years, 1/2 the size, and more power)

I paid 4500 for a 2000 r1 and this was 3ish years ago. Mid summer as well. No more then 3k max. 2nd failure will happen, was starting to go on mine.

When new, the 1998-2001 R1 had 150hp... so the FI 600's are actually 60% of the size with 85% of the power.

The new 600s are 130hp at the brochure. On a dyno, I've never seen a stock one over 110rwhp in Calgary.

My 99' r1 bone stock on a dyno here in Calgary was 128rwhp..

I know this bike had a lot more then 115 when it came out. :dunno: How much Torque again? wasn't it around 80?

I think mine was around 70, if a little less.

Yeah, sorry, I just figured the engine might not be very tight after 12 years of riding. I'd doubt it still having 130 or whatever.

CUG I agree with the most out of any post, people here think their bikes are worth so much more then they are, take it in for a trade in and see what ya get, depending on the model add $500-1000 to the tag and that should be your private selling price.

I don't know of too many shops that would go over $2000 for a 98 r1 and that would be if they are desperate to move the other bike out the door.

depending on km/shape/service records top dollar is $3000 as far as I am concerned.

I assume this is the bike?

HAHAHA

Also, SOME bikes are over priced out here for sure, but there are also some great deals and a really strong sportbike market. Prices are all over the place compared to other provinces... I know, I buy shit coast to coast.

hello again fella's!

i dont know if its me, or im just getting the kijiji lowballer experience.
i posted my bike on kijiji, its an '08 Suzuki GSXR 600 blue and white, and has 9300 km's on it, and i listed it for 6 grand.

call me crazy, but isnt that pretty darn fair?
im getting emails off the hook from people saying, i'll pay 5 grand to come pick it up right away! another said i was asking too much for the km's on the bike.

garsh i just dont know, this is my first ad ever on kijiji. so im definitely kijiji n00b.

btw, if any of you handsome dev's are interested in it, feel free to pm me.

6 is fair but if you look outside it is -30 still so the life of bike sales right now is probably your biggest issue.

It's not just you. Simply put, there are too many bikes on the market at this time, and a handful of really great deals. Knowing this, buyers want the same deal from everyone. Without looking at your bike, I would say that your bike is very reasonably priced, but the time of year plays against you. If you can wait, you'll have much better luck come spring when demand goes up.

On this note, I'm planning on putting mine up for sale in the spring, thinking of doing it about halfway through april... good plan? Earlier, later, suggestions?

yeah, but SIX grand?!?!?
got another one today, someone emailed me an ad for ANOTHER bike saying " you want to much for the kilometers on the bike! look at this 07 gsxr 600, with only 1300 km's! and its for 6500 "

i just dont know what people want me to tell 'em.
6500, is a fabulous deal, but.. the bike ise worth more than that.

BLEH i just dont know, it's like you said japan us, people just think they can get deals like that on anything.:dunno:

That is a sweet deal. When someone lowballs me via kijiji I respond by saying only if I get to kick you in the balls.

hello again, i got this little gem in my email today

" i have done my research thats why my offer was so low, cause thats all your bike is worth,
and what does a guy having to get rid of a bike have to do with getting a deal,
my offer remains the same, i suggest you accept it or else "

he/she had offered me 4300. , then 5000.
i got a good chuckle out of the "or else"

i actually had an email from this person a couple weeks ago,
which a bargaining tool of an 07 GSXR 600 with 1500 km's for 5000 was used. haha, im thinking i should have just listed my bike for 8 grand, and took an offer for 6.. man.. i dont know how so many of you use kijiji, and dont lose your mind with these people! any way, just thought i'd share this with you all, i had a good laugh.

Don't even reply to most of them.

I had someone offer me 6 grand for my 07 r1.. And when I laughed at them and told them no thanks, they replied saying you'll take it next month when you still have it for sale..

It was back when I wanted to trade it for a sled! I didn't need to sell it. :nut:

At least they finally took my suggestion of being able to search province wide...

I told them that a yr and a half ago or so, and they said they liked the idea and would look at putting it in place.
