If you have time to wait, that one from C.T. usually goes on sale $89.99 twice a year. Same with Mechanix gloves, those go on sale like 5 times/yr.

Haha, what are the chances, Princess Auto has one for $30 until dec 28, went with a friend to get one last night, works like a charm. They had plenty at the NE one last night.

No problem. Worked easily enough to pull codes and clear cel and mil, tried it on a few cars already.
This is the one

Just curious, what kind of useful features do the more expensive ones offer? I'd imagine you'd get a description of the problem and the time it was logged? What else?

Also, doesn't that maxitrip do everything the 30 dollar one does? lol why did you buy both

Some show you live data while some scan srs and abs codes too.

Oh I get it....nah I just need to pull the code and shut off SES light and make sure it isn't something serious and really needs fixing before taking it in...

Ordering it online from Princess since I don't need it right away, 6 bucks shipping, it'll cost me more in gas to drive there from downtown lol...thanks again Beyond!

Does anyone know if this would work for Volvo?

So far all the auto values, mechanic shops, and friends have had zero luck pulling codes off my car because of the make.

If anyone knows, I would be grateful :)

I've got a bluepoint handheld code reader, wish I had got the better one. Tried to pull a code off my roommates crv, and it wouldn't pull it or clear it. Thats what happens when you cheap out!

I always thought OBD II was a standard, and ALL vehicles sold in Canada/North America since 96 had to conform to it?

My cheapo Princess Auto scanner has pulled/cleared codes from all of my previous half dozen vehicles without incident:

98 Corvette
01 Audi TT
05 Sequoia
99 Grand Cherokee
97 Cherokee
98 Corolla

It is the standard, but cheaper scanners many not pull manufacture specific engine codes.

Or in my case, any codes. One of the mechanics I went too tried ordering the volvo software for his scanner and was told by volvo that they wouldn't supply him with it. :dunno:

Well if you are ever in the se, I would be happy to give mine a go, can't see it having a different result tho, but it's free for me to try.

I would love to give it a shot, but the car no longer runs. If either of you guys want to come out to Strathmore in the near future, I wouldn't mind diagnosing the car so I can start working on it again! :) lol

Your user manuals should tell you the makes and years that are compatible. If Volvo is on that list, I would be happy to trade a coffee to borrow the scanner ;)

^ shit, good deal!

I still haven't gotten mine in the mail from Princess Auto yet, but as Murphy's Law would have it, the check engine light went off on Friday night, so now I guess I can't even pull the code!

Oh well...

For those of u who missed the sale in store at Princess, just buy it online like I did...
