The main purpose of this thread is to remind everybody to lock their house when they go out especially during the holidays. If your not confident in your locking routine then double check before you drive away.

Now my story. My wife just came and told me she heard our storm door open and someone check the knob to see if it was locked. So like normal I ignored her because she is a little looney and always imagines this kinda stuff. A few minutes later she gives me an update and says she is watching out the window and can see that he is walking around and randomly going up and checking door knobs. I couldn't see him so I went for a walk. When I past the guy the first time that matched the description I discreetly watched him and he very obviously walked up and checked the door knob and walked away. I then phoned the non emergency police number and continued around the block. I gave the operator a description (she was great). I saw him again on the other side of the block and discreetly timed it so I could see him when he was at the front door and he clearly did it again.

Since this is beyond I apoligize for being a pathetic gay coward and not risking unknown consequences for the safety of my family. Please Post up how cool you would have looked when you would kick this guys ass.

Oh I would have looked so cool.

But seriously, good on you for going the route you did. Better to get police involved. It's a shame you couldn't have been around and had the cops catch him.

I think I would have done the same thing - though 911 would probably have been my choice. It isn't so much that I'd feel I was "risking" having a chat with him, but the more likely scenario is if I were to confront him he'd bolt, and I would not bother to run after him. Hence, the cops are the better choice.

All jokes aside good on you man. Pieces of shit like this guy deserve alot more than what he is probably going to get from our legal system. Any word if the police caught up with him?

The operator said something to the effect of "we will send somebody out". I told her my address and my wife stared out the window for the next two hours but didnt see anything.
I imagine things were higher priority. I was able to give a very detailed description, maybe it will help down the line.

i'd avoid confronting the guy too, you never know how nuts a guy might be, or pull a knife on you

i'd have called 911 and said, "he's breaking in the neighbors"...that'd get the cops there in a hurry!

Mckenzie Towne. The guy was about 25, Blonde hair down to his shoulders, big dark coat, slim to medium build.
After he checked our door he randomly checked about every three doors. He went around the block, crossed the street and came back on the other side. Now he was checking every door.
We live on an outside corner of a circle so my wife was able to observe him pretty good in two directions from the window.
I think I am regretting not calling 911 and getting in closer and tailing him till someone showed up, but the only way my wife let me out of the house was if I promised to be carefull.

that's where having a set of "bright" motion sensor lights overhead of the back door is nice

daytime though, all houses are vulnerable, on last house we switched the back door to one with no glass in it, from one that was 50% glass-lite, added a dead-bolt (first door just had a locking songle door handle)

You're definitely good to call 911 for activity like that.

Word. I'm in the area and will be taking care of the gf's dog for the next few weeks so I'll be out in the cold taking the thing for a walk every night. I'll keep my eyes peeled for this MFKR. More specifics are needed.

Hello Kritafo's husband.

Most home break-ins happen during the daytime, this is when all the working stiffs are away pushing a desk. Night time, well those are desperate thieves or worse.

I actually heard through a friend that his wife also saw someone going door to door during the day today almost identical to what you described.....also in new brighton. Someone needs to get this guy arrested...

I really hope they called this in or at least you can talk them into calling it in. It looks like we have a routine.
I'm not getting this Kritafo's husband thing, must be a thread I missed. I will have to do a search.

Sounds like it very well could have escalated to an emergency if he did in fact find a door knob that wasn't locked.

What he was doing was very serious, I would have called 911 over the non-emergency line in a heart beat, but otherwise great job!!!
I think a lot of people wouldn't have followed him at all, you being able to get a decent description sure helped.

Did they catch him at all?

Yeah... this is for sure a 911 call. Perhaps even an "I think I saw a weapon in his hand - not sure if it was a gun" call. Foul on you OP, foul on you. Someone's home was broken into because this went unhandled.
