Hey guys,

I was wondering if any of you have had Joanne Roberts for 357 or Frank Atkins for 359? When I registered with for both of the classes, they had great reviews on ratemyprof but now it seems like the reviews have gone the opposite way. Should I take the classes with these profs or look to take it with other profs?

It would be great if you guys give some input! :)

I haven't taken any classes with these prof's but I wouldn't be surprised if it was just bitter students deciding to slam them because they didn't prepare properly for the final and got rocked.

Had Frank Atkins for 359 and I have absolutely nothing bad to say about him, I thought he was awesome. He's definately an interesting character, where he's always voicing his opinions during class discussions. As for the class, very easy-going, work isn't hard at all. Just make sure you do the practice questions and assignments and you'll be fine

Atkins for sure.

Atkins will never change the way he teaches, which I think is wicked. One of the most interesting econ class imo.

he'll also tell you how he boned one of his students...his now wife.

359 with Atkins is an easy class, his assignments, midterms and finals are easy. As for learning, you really won't learn much from Atkins other then his views on politics.

As for Roberts, I have never had her but I know Prof. Yuan is also teaching 357 and while his english is sub-par, he makes up for that on his relatively easy tests. ( I have had 2 classes with him)

I had the exact profs for those classes. Atkins is easy as everybody else has stated already. He reuses old exam questions.... and he gives you some of these old exam questions he has used in the past for you to study haha.

Roberts, in my opinion, is pretty smart and very nice but I found 357 to be kind of tough; the assignments and exams. She ended up curving the grades for our class so I ended up with a fairly decent mark after all haha! Mind you, I studied my ass off for the final so that might have helped save my mark as well. You'll have to attend class and copy down notes and examples because the textbook is absolutely TERRIBLE and USELESS; at least the textbook I had when I took it was like this.

I heard that Atkins is a very interesting prof and hilarious if you're not easily offended.

Yuan sucks, period. I don't understand what he says and if you ask him a question, it's even worse.

Thanks for the responses guys! Now I know not to be too freaked out about the classes but I'm still scared of 357 cause I haven't heard that many good things about that course.

if you made it through 301, you should be ok.

Fuck. Well, UofC just screwed me over by canceling 359 in Spring 2011. I can't take it in the Summer and I would like to graduate in Fall, so has anyone taken a 359-equivalent somewhere else? MRU perhaps?

Rookie mistake. Also, I'm on internship right now. :)

It's my last core other than 427, which is also available in Spring *knock on wood*
