I can sell current car for $1500, I have $1k set aside specifically for a car, I have another $1k coming in, then I just need to set aside another $1500.

Only looking at Japanese cars and so far all I've come up with are Prelude or Integra.

should also let us know how old you are willing to go? if you will go into the 80s then that opens up a whole bunch

but you are also going to have to then be more careful about your selection as you could end up with a money pit

Hey my 1992 Nissan 180SX might be up for sale sometime soonish. It was hit lightly on the front so the hoods a bit damaged and it needs a bumper and some little trim pieces but it still has an active title, otherwise in great shape, made 251.7WHP and 278WTQ on Toma's Dyno this fall.

I should also add its the perfect candidate for a Silvia front end swap if that's your thing.

92-96 Prelude SR-v (vtec). 190hp, great handling, very fun to drive.
I've even seen some 5th gen Preludes (97+) going for ~$5000.
