Is this new or used? Not too familiar with Hondata. Would this work with my Civic? I have a D16Y8.

The Hondata is used but only for a short time.
These are the functions that the 3b includes:
Speed limiter removed
Tunable fuel and ignition tables
Expanded fuel & ignition tables for boost
Expanded rpm fuel & ignition tables
Adjustable rev limiter.
Shift light.
VTEC control.
Launch control.
Full throttle shift.

It will work on all Honda & Acura's.

Cool. Does it come with everything, like the CD rom, USB cable, etc.? Do I need to buy anything in addition to this?

Where are you located?

Who can tune this for me if I got it?

You still need a Hondata compatible ECU (see www.hondata.com) in addition to this.

I don't have a USB cable, but I was never given one at the same time.
If your civic is already OBD I then you are good to go.
Speedtech can tune with Hondata as can a few others on this board.
I'm located in Calgary.

I was looking at the site. Honestly, I don't know which ECU I have. The mention taking out the ECU and opening it up to see the number of pins, and the model number. Any idea if this would screw up the ECU or not? If I were to disconnect the ECU to check out this info, could I just plug it back in and everything is okay or would there be some reprogramming or something like that?

I having this sinking feeling that my ECU is not OBD1.

If you do not have the USB cable, how did you hook it up to a computer to tune it? Or did the person doing the tuning have everything?

From what your sig shows, if your civic is a 98 then you have an OBD II ECU. You can open it up without having to worry about it and it should also be labeled somewhere on the outsite.
You can get a USB cable from Future Shop or Radio Shack for dirt cheap. I'm sure speedtech has one that they use for tuning.

If you are planning or are already boosting your car the Hondata is a must! It will help with longevity of your engine and will alow you to properly tune the engine so it runs better.

There are many people in town using them and swear by them.

Your ECU is OBD2, which means you have to buy an OBD2 to OBD1 harness, OBD1 ECU, 2xC256 (E)EPROM chip, and socket/chip the OBD1 ECU to use Hondata.

It doesn't matter if you don't have the cable, because the 3b here doesn't have datalogging. You'll also need someone with the Hondata tuning software to do the tuning. If you want to do your own tuning, you'll need the Hondata software, as well as a chip burner.

Hope that helps.

aiy_yah,
I have the necessary OBD II-I harness and socketed ECU that you will require. I hadn't planed on selling it, but if you are seriously interested in buying the hondata I will sell the others too. For the harness and ECU with chip and already socketed I would want $500.

Funny Guy...funny guy.
ECU will go for $200usd and the harness is a Skunk 2 harness.
Call speedtech and ask them how much they want for one.

Ps- You're awesome!

Yes, I have a supercharger on the engine. I have been looking a possibly adding something like Hondata for a couple of months.

Great. Thanks.

However, now I know it's gonna cost me more than I had hoped.

Man, now I'll have to think about it. I am also in the process of saving to hopefully buy a house. It's costing more and more as I find out more info. Thanks anyways.

I can match or beat that price any day of the week...plus the work is guarenteed.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, I even handle the small JDM ecu's with surface mount chips (i.e. P08, etc)...

Good for you buddy... My work is guaranteed too, although it doesn't really need to since I get it right the first time everytime. Oh and I can do the SMT parts too. You want a scooby snack for that?
