Here's what's going on, I topped up my oil about a month and a half ago and just last week I noticed the levels were at LOW again. So I checked the engine to look for leaks and found that the turbo had oil caked all over it, I thought (from the looks of it) that oil had been dripping onto it from above, but since I actually have no clue at all I thought I'd ask you guys! Here are pics I took with my phone...

I'd really appreciate any help, thanks everyone!

Does that pipe connect to the turbo and go to the intercooler? Blow or leaking turbo maybe?

Yah that's the pipe that goes from the turbo to the intercooler... I don't understand the oil ring around the joint there, I didn't think oil even went there, unless the seals in the turbo are blown, then oil would be going there?

Sure sounds like blown or leaky turbo seals. Mine leaks a little bit but nothing that big.

Is alot going missing? It looks like its dribbling from an external source, not the turbo.

I filled half a litre of oil in under a month and a half. I was looking around the engine bay a few minutes ago and noticed the edges around the engine block also have some oil (not as bad as the turbo tho), so the turbo could be just one part of it.

I would look to see what kind of condition your valve cover seals arein as well as tension on the bolts. Im not very familiar with 3sgtes tho, so dont know the common issues.

Alright thanks for the help I'll take a look at the valves and maybe bring it into a shop lol, probably the best idea I guess.

Based on the pictures I would say that the stock turbo is on its way out. That line where all the oil is built up runs to the factory blow off valve IIRC (sorry its been a while since I ran the stock turbo and BOV). All of the oil leaking past the turbo seals is going through that BOV hose which of course was never meant to hold oil. The residue is making it's way down on to the block. As I said this is what I can make out from the pics. Seems to be way to excessive and localized to be a valve cover leak.

Darn, that was the last thing I was hoping for. So if the turbo is "on its way out" is there a way of getting it fixed, or do I just have to go buy a new one? I'll bring it into a shop regardless.

Honestly man, a new turbo isn't all that bad. If you want to do it on the cheap you can find good used Ct26's for a couple hundred dollars or less. If you want to upgrade you can upgrade to a ct20b and have a totally different machine for around $500. JDM source Im sure has access to a few turbos and there are always a lot on mr2oc.com

cool thx. Not ready to replace yet as I'm not 100% sure it's blown. As soon as I find out for sure I'll be looking into buying. Just don't want to spend 500+ without being sure. Thanks tho!
