Not sure how well this thread will do, but I was interested to see how many people on here like to surf when they get a chance to leave land locked Calgary. First two weeks in March I'm doing my first surf trip to Maui, anyone done any surfing there that can recommend some good areas to check out?

Usually I rent boards wherever I go, but i Have started to build my own, I am on my second one, this is my progress so far, its a 6' Biscuit.

Dude that's awesome!! Nice work. If anyone is out on the island and wants a surf buddy/someone to laugh at while I fall off waves, let me know!

I am going to try and get out to Tofino in the summer for some surfing!

I probably have about 10 hours into it, and I still have to install three fin boxes and then put on a gloss coat.

civicrider, shoot me a pm. we need to do some shaping.

I've got a board shaped, ready for glass, but I hot-wire cut the rocker out of foam.

Anyways, looks like you have some space to use for it all. Anywho

If you cut the rocker with a hotwire did you not have a stringer? I have been buying blanks out of the states, it saves a ton of time when you're shaping.

Went out for a rip this morning. Weather was pretty bad, started pissing rain about halfway through the session, but still super fun. Went to a little hike-in beach out in ucluelet, we were the only people there.

Break was big but pretty choppy, sets were kind of piling up on each other. Took 1 huge spill, fell off the board right at the top of the wave, so I fell right down to the bottom and was tumbled over the top again. Now I'm so freaking sore from paddling. Awesome sesh :D

i love surfing! i'm getting better but still SUCK at paddling out haha. i go with my aussie friends here and they're so damn good and can just paddle out like it's nothing. i haven't been in a month now cause of the shitty weather and conditions, sucks cause it's winter soon here.
i definitely want to shape my own board, it would be such a sweet souvy to bring home from aus one day. hopefully get at it over winter!

i'd post my surfboard but im' far too lazy to host it somewhere first haha

picked myself up a firewire dominator 6'0, such an awesome board! I'm heading to Barbados next week, has anyone been there and gone surfing?

Has anyone tried wake surfing behind a boat just to get a feel for the board and standing up on it?

I didn't think there would be much surfing to be done in the Caribbean... The biggest waves I've seen were in Sosua in DR and it's nowhere close to what I saw in Maui.

From what i've read Barbados has surf year round, probably not huge though, im curious as to how busy the spots will be.

Anyone stand up paddle? I'm thinking about getting into it this summer. I need something new to do.

im gonna buy a SUP board just to paddle around in Invermere this summer. I'm not a fan of using them in the ocean, too bulky and kinda boring to ride.

Here's the waves in Barbados, they were a fun size, some got over head high on the good days.

Ya I was looking for something to do close to town or in BC. I think SUP will be the way to go. Doubt I'll see any real waves for a while since I blew most of my load on my 10 month trip. Missing Bali and Oz real bad these days!

Never been to Tofino, thinking about doing it this summer.

waves are small in the summer months in Tofino, and the water is too cold for me. If i need a full wet suit and a hood in out!

Bumping this! Heading out to Tofino beginning of September to learn to surf. Any suggestions where to stay/go in the town?

Cheers!

How was it? I've never surfed Vancouver before, I'm a warm water kinda guy. This year I've surfed Barbados and San Diego county. I leave for Taiwan next month, does anyone have advise?
