Hi Beyond,

What would your ideal work shift be? Let's say you had to schedule 8 hours a day for work, what shift would you choose and why?

I'm interested to see who would deviate from the usual 8-4 or 9-5 and what they would do with the extra time?

Personally I would rather have extra time in the morning. I've worked 7-3:30 in the past and while it is nice to miss traffic and come home early it sucks waking up in the morning.

Ideally anything other than what I currently have, lol.

If I had to pick a mon-fri. 8 hour shift (assuming unpaid lunch) , it would be 10am-6:30pm, or 11am-7:30pm

Sleep in every day, skip heavy traffic, and still enough time at night to enjoy the evening.

Yes I like that schedule a lot too except my hours go until 9-11pm depending how busy it is so it sucks haha

So good. I would love that too. Mornings go by so quick. And leaves the rest of your day to whatever you want to do.

I suppose its kinda off from the 8 hours a day but i worked a job where we did 4 - 10's. 7-5 Monday to thursday then 7-5 Tuesday to friday. That was fucking amazing. The four day weekend every other weekend was great in the summer.

7:30-5 with every other friday off.... I don't mind it but the afternoons can be a little long. 3 day weekend makes up for it though.

10-6 would be ideal

10-6 for me.

I currently do 8:30am - 4:30PM but I hate waking up early.

8-4

But the numbers in this thread really depend on when u gotta wake up for ur shift.

If you live in Evergreen and work at the airport for example than for ur 8am shift ur prob gonna have to wake up at 6.

7-3. Beat the traffic on the way to work and get off early enough in the day to enjoy the day.

My ideal was 7-5 Monday to Thursday. Ed doesn't seem to have the same rush hour problem as Calgary, so the timing is ok.
+/- an hour in either direction would be fine. Bottom line-- I would rather work 4 tens than 5 eights.

My job is way too cushy, it will be a sad day when I part ways.

12-8 wouldn't be bad, enough time during the day to get errands done or to sleep in after a night of drinking.

I wouldnt mind the 7am-3pm either.

At my work we have 3 shifts 9-5, 12-7 and 2-9, works out pretty good for the most part

Three 12 hour shifts, perfect as it means four days off a week. I am currently working 7-4:30 M-F, spend a minimum of 80 minutes a day in traffic... 1600 mins a month....27 hours! With snow, more like 140 minutes.... I hate the traffic more than my work to tell the truth. I would never work a night shift, never.

Currently work 7:00 to 3:30, I don't take the last 15 minute break and take off at 3:15 instead. Love it.

did 4 on 4 off of 12 hour days and that was alright, but I think I like this more.

i wouldn't mind starting at 6. i'm up so damn early all the time anyways, i haven't slept solid in like a year haha.
i've worked 7 months over the last 12 and haven't been able to sleep in past 9 once :(

to be honest my ideal work shift is 9-5 haha. I've worked everything from 6:30-2:30 to 1-9 shifts.

I used to really like the 6:30-2:30 shifts as they went by fast and I was off early enough to beat the rush if I need to hit the mall for something etc. However this only worked for me when I was doing monotonous work that didn't require a lot of thinking (all manual labor- shipping/receiving). Once I got a job behind a desk it was a whole different ball game and my brain doesn't fire up till at least 9am haha so 9am is the ideal start time for me. The train isn't even that bad at this time of day!

I worked 3 jobs in the summer and the worst i ever worked was 530 - 2 m-f and then 5 to anywhere between 8 and 3am any given day of the week and a pt job on weekends.
I would have killed for a nice 9-5 job. I have done splits, nights, mornings etc. I'm not a morning person either, so i think something like 10-6 would be awesome. Depends on the job though.

I would love to work 9-5, caveat being a 15 minute drive home. I currently work 8:15 until 4:45 (more like 8:30 until 5) so it ain't bad, I am pretty happy.

7am-3 pm if I lived right next to work but my current sleeping habits don't work too well for that. currently work 830-430.

I was working 10-6 this past year, and loved it. Just switched to a 8-5, and despise it lol

yeah I used to love that shift.

4 on, 4 off doing those 12 hour days was fucking WICKED.
I still work 4 on, 4 off, but now its 12:30 to midnight. Today is the first of my days off.

7-3:30 is the most ideal to me. Mornings go really fast and once lunch rolls around, you completed most of the day. If you like to sleep in a lot, your wasting your life. It's best to get up really early, not waste anytime and get the day over with so that you can spend valuable time with your loved ones.

I work 630 to 3 so lets say 7-3 is the shift then. Not so early that you get up at a retarded hour but early enough you miss 70% of the traffic. Also in the summer being home at 330 is awesome. Lots of time to enjoy being outside while it is warm.

When I have to work until 6 or 7 I just get drained. I get home, eat, watch an hour of TV then go to bed. I hate it.

I do 1-10 or 3-12 mostly, I don't do mornings, but I think I'd like mornings better in the summer.

7 to 7, 4 on and 4 off, love it. Of course having a 5 minute commute with no traffic helps too.

6am - 3pm. Perfect for me because the days go by fast and you beat all the rush hour traffic. I'm able to pick up the kids at 4pm to save from having someone to watch the kids. Put the kids in bed by 8-8:30, workout for 30-60 minutes and in bed by about 10. Used to work 4:30am-1pm and it was pretty sweet when working from home, but sucked balls if we had to go to the office.
