Well, getting close to being that time of the year again.. Figured I would start this thread early and give everyone who is interested some time to decide.

Basically for everyone from last year, same deal as ever. $20 buy in (EmailMoneyTransfer or Paypal).

I have advertised this pool on a forum for F1 2010 (video game) as well, in hopes of creating a larger pool of possible winnings. If I can get 30-40 people, there will probably be payouts to the top 4-5 places. I'll update the names of anyone interested over there to this thread.

Im not sure what the rules are right now for new people signing up on beyond.

Who's up for it?

I had to start a new subleague as last years was linked to an email I don't have access to anymore.. Feel free to join: Beyond.ca F1 sub-league.

Entry fees can be paypal'd or E.M.T'd to: [email protected]

$20 buy-in + $0.88PP fee = $20.88 (via Paypal)
$20 buy-in + $1.50 Bank fee = $21.50 (via Email Money Trasnfer)

 ... Can't blame me for your memory, or lack of? lol.

cycosis - I use www.F1toto.com for the pool with our own sub-league for beyond. Basically you have to submit your picks for each race. You make your picks after qualifying and once the race starts they are locked in (website does it automatically). The rest of the rules are on the website..

We rely on results published by the official F1 organization. If this information is not available for some reason, then gppool.com will decide.

Any adjustments to the official results (in connection with doping, etc.) that arise after gppool.com has updated the scoring will have no effect on the updated scoring. In other words: we will not adjust scorings.

You can earn points for each of your predictions (No. 1-8). Points are calculated as follows.

8 minus the absolute difference between the place value in your prediction and outcome.

For example: Driver X in your forecast for the Australian Grand Prix at number 7 ends in this race as third.

8 - | 7-3 | = 4 points

Another example: Rider Y is in your forecast for the Chinese Grand Prix at No. 4 and finishes fourth in the Chinese Grand Prix:

8 - | 4-4 | = 8 points.

Last example: You placed Rider Z in your prediction for the European Grand Prix at No. 2 and he ends as eighth in the European Grand Prix:

8 - | 2-8 | = 2 points.

For each Grand Prix you can earn a maximum of 64 points.

Total participants will dictate what positions will get payed out at the end of the season. Person(s) with the highest score after Abu Dhabi is the winner.

Last year we were missing a few guys so the pot was smaller, and only payed out the Top 2 players (80/20 i think). However if I can get more guys in, the pot will be bigger and i can expand the pay out to possibly top 3-4, maybe even five if I could get 30-40 people in (unlikely, but trying to)

DJ Lazy
01-20-2011, 08:22 PM
Also, typically, you might be able to miss one race and still be in contention (if you haven't shit the bed in other races.. haha). But if you miss out on getting your predictions submitted more than twice you will probably be out of the top guys.

So it does take some commitment to at least check out the quali results on a race weekend and make your picks.

Nope.. there hasn't even been a post in the thread I made on the other forum... which is baffling considering it was started PURELY for the F1 2010 video game..

Feel free to invite your friend!

This is a go for sure once everyone pays up. :D

So are you 3 still interested? (H4LFY2nR, GTS4tw, Inzane)

I just had a buddy of mine join as well.. and he might get his brother in too... so we would be up to 9-10 guys.

EDIT:

I also just deleted a few of you from the subleague, instead of activating you.. Can you please re-join.. so I can activate you.

Anyone know who these guys are? p.j., F1Summerland?

Also...

I was thinking about incorporating a new "rule" this year... I know a few people miss a race or two in the season and pretty much are out of the running. So I was thinking at the end of the season I will take the best 18 of 20 races for each person of the best scores and drop any missed races ppl had.

That gives an allowance of 2 races and should keep things a bit tighter through out the season. That way some aren't throwing away $20..

What do you guys think?

Who do ya think you are - Bernie Ecclestone? Fooling with scoring system. Hmmmph!

Haven't seen the "best of" in F1 for a few seasons now. I'm counting on other people missing races - it's my only hope!

I'll abstain from voting on this issue because it may draw more participants and that I would support.

Looking like we should be around 10-12 people this year. My buddy has a couple friends interested as well, so should be a decent turn out!

I am also going to implement the "Best of 18" rule this year. This will allow anyone who misses a race or 2, to still be in contention at the end of the season. The worst 2 scores over the course of the season will be removed (2 missed races, or for those that make their picks for every one, your 2 lowest scores).

I will assume that everyone thinks this is a fair idea as no one has really mentioned anything since I previously posted about it. :)

If you haven't got your entry fee in, please do so before this weekends race. Thanks!

Ok Josh, I've sent you a paypal for my entry fee, and my wife has started up an account on f1toto and has sent you a paypal as well. She's using the username "Inzane's Wife". Please add her to your list.

Thanks.

PS - There are a total of three subleagues with beyond in the title now. Do you have the ability to blow away the old defunct ones (to avoid the confusion of accidentally going into the wrong one to make picks, etc.)?

DJ Lazy
03-24-2011, 09:11 PM
Got ur payments! Thanks..

I don't think I can get rid of the old ones. I was using a old email address (shaw deleted it) and forgot the password, so I can't really do anything about it as I can't login. I'll see if the admin on the site can erase them.

Until then you could maybe try and bookmark the actual sub-league page, instead of the main login page. :dunno:

Fuck, I should've put Kobayashi for 8th instead of Schumi. Couldn't decide between the two before the race, and thought Kobayashi would be more likely to DNF haha.

Edit: nvm, would've been fucked either way.

Dear Participant of F1toto.com,

First of all, our apologizes for the inconvenience.

Due a technical problem it was not possible to enter the predictions for the last GP of Malaysia. For this reason, no points will be awarded to all the participants of the F1toto.com for this GP. This round will not being included for the rest of the season at F1toto.com. The problem has been solved by our technical team. For the next GP (China), you can fill in your prediction as you used to do.

Once again our apologizes.
Best regards,
The team F1toto.com

Received this email from F1toto this morning regarding the Malaysian GP.

DJ Lazy
04-17-2011, 12:27 PM
It seems like ^^ is still being fixed by the admin at F1toto... I never made any pics for Malaysia yet it has automatically assigned me some... My total of 81 doesn't match my Aussie and China tallies (82)..

I have emailed them again to see if anything is going to be done about it.

A2VR6
04-17-2011, 12:51 PM
I think your 81 comes from your tallies of Aussie and Malaysia. Although F1toto say they would discount Malaysia but it seems that they have added it in anyways...

Correct. Malaysia's not being included as the website wasn't working that weekend.. (then again they still have issues with some peoples accounts)..

BTW, to make it sound even worse, she gave birth to our son last weekend (friday, the 20th). I watched the Spanish qualifying at home that saturday morning, brought her the results in the hospital, she made her picks, and I went home and entered them for her later. And she kicked my ass! :nut:

I'm finding this pool really frustrating this year. Just when I think I have awesome pics on a given race, I then see everyone else's score and I'm not so awesome.

Like Germany, for example. Lots of people obviously had Schumi, including my wife, but based on his typical performance over the last season and a half that was really a pure gamble pick.

And Sutil...? Holy crap, if some of our pool members had him.... Daaayum!

DJ Lazy
07-27-2011, 10:51 PM

How did you guys even know to pick Sutil? He's been having a horrible season.

Blind luck? You gambled that he's desperate now and fighting to save his job? What? :dunno:

Regarding my wife, we had identical picks except for Schumi. I thought he'd bust another front wing and ruin his race as per normal. Apparently not this time.

DJ Lazy
07-28-2011, 08:07 PM
Sometimes big points require big moves..

From Q3 forward, Sutil had quicker lap times every session compared to Schumacher... I think Schumi might have been quicker in Q2, but only by a tenth, where as Sutil was consistently 4-5tenths.

Just comes down to mathematics and probability for picks.:D Maybe a bit of luck!

Yea, I might have to do it manually, but I will wait, we have 1.5weeks before the next race so I'm not in a rush. haha

I hereby propose that Inzane change his handle to Inzane's Wife's Husband. I'll be changing mine to Schooled.

So how are we doing this, since Malaysia is already exempt? Counting 17/20 races, or 18/20 races?

Inzane
11-28-2011, 02:01 PM
If you take out just Malaysia, Inzane's Wife beats haysen by one point.

If you take out Malaysia plus Canada, it looks like Inzane's Wife and haysen are tied (for 1st?) by my calculation.

(I didn't look at anyone else's scores to see if anyone else catches up to them.)

And yes, I will consider changing my name.

I say best 18/20 period (include Malaysia). Some guys have Malaysia points (me included ).

DJ Lazy

Malaysia is not being included. The site was not working for many people that weekend, including myself even though it assigned me random points while others got 0.

I guess we will have to have a majority consensus on whether we go Malaysia + 1 or 2. I never really planned for this situation. haha However, after the Malaysian GP, I had planned on keeping it to the guidelines and still removing the 2 worst races from each person. Doing anything other than that now based on a vote will be quite bias to be honest.

So I'm saying stick with 16/19 (No Bahrain this year ;) )

Edit:

These are the results. The first number is your total after Brazil (Malaysia Exempt). In brackets are your 2 worst races. Season Total at the end.

01. Inzanes Wife - 771 - (31 30) = 710
02. haysen - 770 - (29 33) = 708
03. p.j. - 752 - (31 31) = 690
04. JDigital - 741 - (29 33) = 679
05. Inzane - 733 - (22 34) = 677
06. A2VR6 - 712 - (0 38) = 674
07. Chris Elyea - 728 - (30 34) = 664
08. Stebbi - 709 - (22 27) = 660
09. Joelsif94 - 559 +39 (0 0) = 598
10. H4LFY2nR - 458

Pool is paying out:

Actually... im just wondering here...

My worse two races are China and Hungary which are both 0 according to "My Prediction" part of the pool since I didnt enter picks for either of those races.
:dunno:

Either way thanks for keeping us updated! Even tho the site had it's issues it was a fun season and I hope to do it next year!

Congrats to all the winners!

Sorry.. I completely missed Hungary when I was going through your picks. It should be Canada and Hungary as well, as you scored 50pts at both China and Turkey, its just doesn't show in you points.

Which means your 712 is enough to take the first place spot I think. Will take a closer look when I get home from work. I apologize, it's a bit of clusterfuck this year with the website missing stuff that needs to be done manually. :nut:

Actually, the subtractions for Inzane's wife should be (30, 34) since her 31 points was from Malaysia, which is already exempt :D

^^ Thanks for the extra set of eyes. I was starting to go crossed eyed looking at all these numbers last night. :nut:

I am as positive as I can be now with these results. If anyone is wondering how A2VR6 came out of no where to win, he had back to back 50pt races in China and Turkey but the website isn't assigning him any points for some reason, but his picks are there.

01. A2VR6 - 712 - (0 0) = 712
02. haysen - 770 - (29 33) = 708
03. Inzanes Wife - 771 - (30 34) = 707

Can we get some assurances from the site owner before next season's pool that there won't be this level of bugs on F1toto again?

When people have money on the line, these kind of fuck ups just aren't cool. We were looking at an incorrectly scored list for most of the season. :thumbsdow
