I am in the market looking for a used car. I've found one I like and the price is set at $35,900. I am told $34,000 is the lowest they can go as there is not much adjusting they can do with the price.

Can I try to negotiate more or is it true what there telling me?

How should we know? Different dealers work with different margins.

Go there, offer them 33,000, and leave a business card with them. Tell them you'll chill out for a couple of days before you continue searching elsewhere. If they are willing to sell it for 33, then they will.

If a dealer tells you X dollars is the "lowest they can go" their lying 99% of the time. Same with the dealers that have a "no negotiating" policy - they price their cars no differently but have that policy to make people think they are getting a good deal. Hyatt infinity has this bullshit as do a couple others.

Lastly, if this is at a dealer, whatever you do, do not pay the "admin" fee, which is probably $300ish. It's a 100% money grab.

What car is it? If it was a trade in I bet they paid WAY less than $34k for that car.

The best advice for buying a used car is don't believe anything the seller tells you (private or dealership sale).

Offer them a couple thousand less than what their 'lowest price' is, they'll say no, you walk away. In a couple days they'll call you and be willing to bargain some more. It's all just a big game to them.

Thanks for the advice. Vehicle is a 2008 Acura RDX Technology package 55,xxxkms

http://www.vmrcanada.com lists the car at $31,425 Retail. Today is the first time I've ever heard of/visited vmrcanada.com; is it something the dealership will consider if I bring it up?

Dunno if they will, but I used that website a lot when I was searching for a used car a couple months back.

I do this every time. I'd offer 32,000 though. After a day they'll probably call you and tell you 33 and it's a done deal, then I'd tell them no admin fees.
