I have some Timberland Earthkeepers that I love! I was always the type to just wear sneakers all the time, and bought the Tim's over xmas. Never knew what I was missing, now my feet are always dry and warm....

Oh and about Glee: Former Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash, who reportedly described Glee as "worse than Grease, and Grease is bad enough"

Oh, and Kings of leon also had there own little to cents to say about it...hahahah

For the Timberland and the Tretorns, did you have to wear wool socks or thick socks to stay warm or does normal cotton socks suffice?

Me and my girlfriend are both rocking these (she got a fancier design). I think they're great and work very well, all I wear is regular cotton ankle socks with them.

My gf is a huge pussy about bad weather and she uses them to walk 38 blocks to and front work almost every day. So they must be pretty good.

Looks like I'm going to Browns for some Sorels and check them out!

Is there a mid-boot or are the only good Sorels are the high Caribous?

I just wear normal cotton socks in them, though wool socks wouldn't hurt.

The Shoe Company has a good selection of Sorels and they are cheaper than the MSRP found at other stores.

ah yes the good old RBLT. my dad only wears these and he loves them, I've used them a few times and they are great, feet never get wet and they are super warm.

Kind of off topic...but this year I discovered those rubber sticker things you can put on the bottom of your shoes! Turns any pair of shoes into super grippy shoes, they're like winter tires for your shoes! 4 bucks a pair at a shoe store! Chicks have been using them on their high heels for years apparently....

For around town in the winter, I'm running some Blundstones. They aren't very warm though, so not suitable for long periods out in the weather. More like getting from the bus to the office, or going our to a restaurant or something.

I got a pair of these for visiting the rigs:

The Shoe Co. Eh? I'll give them a call before I go. Hella slippery outside haha.

^ well I found out about them when my gf bought shoes from Spring Shoes and they put them on for her....they're just a little patch of rubber you stick onto the bottom of any shoes....they say on the package they're for men's and women's shoes....I've never been asked to buy them when I bought dress shoes in the winter but they work like magic, never slip on ice/show again...I was thinking maybe I could find a whole roll of it at home Depot or something lol but I keep forgetting to check it out...

Damn, those are sweet! I'd get the orange/blue pair for sure haha! Are they composite or steel-toed?

I went to Shoe Company today and tried on the Sorel's; The Pac T is a good mid-cut but I am not fan of the sole layout, while as the Caribou is SO WARM but it's super heavy (I was really tempted to buy it especially when it was the last pair in the store so extra 15% off but it was just too heavy for my taste).

So I looked around and I got this pair from "Khombu" (never heard of it haha):

http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/3554/78708364.jpg

Cold rating of -40f  , waterproof rubber midsole (same as the Sorel), and chunky sole like the Caribou.

I'll give it a review if anyone is interested haha. If you HAVE to get Sorel's, I'd go for the Pac T.

Thanks again for the help, Beyond! And please provide different options if you have a nice pair that you'd like to share with the world! :D

Steel. The "body" of the boot is foam, like a wetsuit i guess, and they are pretty thin, but crazy warm. The only downside to this style of boots that I've ever found is that since they are rubber, they don't breathe at all, and if your feet sweat, or you get wet somehow, they are a real beeeitch to dry out.

I've heard that you can wear Uggs without socks in cold weather. Is that true?

That's what people say, but I wouldn't recommend it. Your Uggs will smell nasty in no time.

The only thing that seem to fit over my leg brace are hiking boots, and I was tired of those. Surprisingly, ugg hilgard (http://www.uggaustralia.com/ca/ProductDetails.aspx?gID=m&productID=3017&model=Hilgard)'s fit over it quite well. They're warm, more or less water proof (a requirement for my brace was that the tongue is not stitched to the upper of the boot. Thus, that is a point of entry for water if outside in deep snow for extended periods of time) and if worn with the collar up, are rather low key.

There are definitely cheaper options for a warm, comfortable waterproof winter boot, but they worked for me. I've yet to try it, but I imagine I'd feel just fine wearing them without socks.

Just Odor Eaters that shit lol. But yeah, it would probably wreck your shoes quicker.

I have a similar pair from Mark's, they're a brand called Cofra from italy.
Super warm, and nice to be able to walk through -30c or spring time mud w/o looking like a pansy, afraid to get leathers dirty.
Only downer is it hurts your feet after a few hours if you're not use to the composite heel & rubber.

I bought these Merrell Motive Thermal's from Mec in December. So awesome for Calgary weather. Rated to -30C.

+1 for the dunlops. I have a pair for field work and they are the business!! Not sure how awesome they would be in super cold...but keep me warm out here on the wet coast.

The thermo+ version are very good in extreme cold. Commonly used on oil rigs in winter.

I have the same ones in black/grey. Good for casual snow trekking.

If you want a REAL winter boot, Sorels FTW!

Those are definitely nice. Those were my new pair during December then my dad wore them one day and just LOVED it. Wouldn't give it back haha.

For those Merrell's, how's the grip and fit? I tried one on at MEC and it felt tight, like it was meant for narrow feet and didn't feel like it would budge.

Which of the Sorel's provide -40 warmth, great grip, and are lightweight? Or is it one of those triangles where you can only have 2/3 lol. The Caribou's are just TOO heavy. I found that it's just so much 'shoe' to lug around.

Oh yeah!

After a field test of the Khombu's last night (walking from University station to the new library and around campus outside), these are definitely warm and toasty. I absolutely LOVE them! They're even better with wool socks on! The grip is chunky so it can definitely hold its ground on snow and ice. In fact, they're so warm that my gloves felt inadequate haha! Any recommendations?

I think this should be 'winter gear' thread now lol.

My only gripe is that since they're zip ups, the zipper is prone to unzipping. It happened once in a while but if you have a great fit, it should be a minor issue.

Hold the press. People just wear THAT?! Is there grip on the bottom?

You can buy them with galoshes, but I think that'd be only useful if it's with deep snow or something...

For my feet (normal width) they feel fine and not narrow at all. As for grip on snow and ice its pretty good too. When I bought these I wanted something that was waterproof and warm and didn't look like an extreme winter boot, like a Sorel. For city stuff its great. But for field stuff, they probably wouldn't be as nice as those Dunlops or Sorels.

Anyone know of any boots that don't make you look like you're on your way to dig a grave?
